Chapter 208: An Old Friend Reunites
Hayleyโs POV:
Hera had already grown irritated by the other personโs rude and inconsiderate behavior. I gently calmed Hera down, suppressing my anger, and furrowed my brow as I looked at the hand gripping my wrist. โDo I need to report to you here?โ
Siete immediately released my wrist and said, โThatโs not what I meant. I was just surprised that you would come to a fan event for Gillian.โ
My face remained expressionless. Even when mentioning someone I once knew intimately, I replied calmly, โYouโre overthinking it. I just happened to pass by. I have no interest in her.โ
Siete clearly didnโt believe me. He stubbornly tried to persuade me. โItโs okay; Gillian really wants to see you. She wants to explain what happened back then. How about I arrange for you two to meet?โ
I looked at Siete with a half-smile, pressing my lips together, and said, โDo you really think thereโs any point in meeting now?โ
โAre you still holding a grudge about what happened back then? I think the two of you could sit down and talk it through. Maybe once the misunderstanding is cleared up, youโll let go of the past and return to the music scene. Thatโs what all your fans are hoping for,โ he continued, trying to persuade me. โHarmony, no matter what happens, weโre old friends. Wouldnโt it be pleasant to reunite as old friends?โ
I didnโt say anything, but on stage, the familiar opening music began to play. Gillian announced, โNext, Iโm going to perform my signature song, Star Whispers.โ
It was Gillianโs most famous song since her debut. Even years later, it remained near the top of the pop music charts, a song everyone knew by heart. As soon as the opening notes played, the fans in the audience began singing along together.
โThis song, both in composition and lyrics, is a classic. After all these years, it still stands the test of time and remains a staple in the music world,โ Siete praised generously, right in front of me.
I clenched my fist tightly, trying to suppress the anger bubbling inside me. At first, I hadnโt wanted to pay any attention to Gillian, nor did I want to engage with the past. But hearing this song, I couldnโt help but sarcastically comment, โIf sheโs so talented, why is it that after all these years, the only song the audience remembers is this one?โ
Siete froze at my remark. I had expected him to at least sense something was wrong, but I had overestimated his intelligence. Even Hera couldnโt resist making fun of him. โHayley, are you sure heโs a high-ranking Beta?โ
Still, Siete insisted, โNot every song can be a classic. Itโs rare for someone to have one defining song.โ
Sieteโs POV:
Watching Hayley walk away, her back full of disappointment and finality, I muttered an apology. โI know youโre telling the truth, but it doesnโt change anything. Harmony, Iโm sorry.โ
I averted my gaze and walked backstage. After Gillian finished her song, she came backstage to change. When she saw me, she rushed over. โSo, how was it? Did I sing well?โ
I looked at her and pondered it. In the end, I decided to be honest. โHarmony was here earlier.โ
What I didnโt expect was that the moment Gillian heard this, her face clearly changed. Her voice even shook a little. โReallyโฆ was it Harmony? She was here? Where is she? I want to meet her.โ
I stared at her familiar face, observing her expression carefully. When Gillian noticed my scrutiny, she quickly looked away, her demeanor suddenly guilty. โSiete, why are you looking at me like that?โ
I replied coldly, โShe already left.โ
Gillian visibly relaxed, but I saw everything, though I said nothing. I wondered if I should trust Hayley more. โDidnโt she retire? How did she end up here? By the way, whatโs her relationship with Christopher? And why did she write songs for him?โ
Gillian pressed me with a rapid-fire series of questions about Hayley. Seeing her awkward expression, I started to piece things together and scrutinized her closely.
Gillianโs POV:
Sieteโs sudden, intense gaze made me feel uneasy. He used to trust me completely. Now, I couldnโt help but wonder if Hayley had said something to him.
โIf you want to know, why donโt you ask her yourself?โ Siete replied coolly, not even looking at me.
I quickly called after him, โWait, donโt go. My event isnโt over yet. We still need toโฆโ But this time, Siete ignored me completely, striding out of the room.
I stood there, biting my lower lip. The warmth that usually filled my gaze was gone, replaced with a stormy coldness. Quickly, I pulled out my phone and made a call. โI need you to find everything about a person; I want all of her current information.โ
