Chapter 244 Confidential
Hayleyโs POV:
Pharis Thomas explained, โThe list above is just a draft of invited participants; not all of them will actually show up.โ
โBenjamin has some recognition in the racing world, so itโs completely normal to invite him. Whatโs the matter? Donโt you want to race with him?โ
Well, thatโs not the issue. My concern was that Benjamin might recognize me, and then I would have to explain myself. On top of that, Hera reacted intensely whenever she was near him. Iโm worried that his presence at the event will affect my performance on the track.
โIs it possible to get a confirmed list of participants?โ I asked.
Thomas responded, โThatโs still uncertain. Weโll only know for sure when we get to the race. But considering how busy Benjamin is with managing the company and the pack, he probably wonโt have the time to attend this kind of event.โ
That made sense. As long as I donโt run into Benjamin at the race, I think I can give it a try. It would be a good opportunity to raise some funds for the kids at the orphanage.
โAlright, have me reply to the organizers and tell them Iโm confirmed to race. But keep it quiet,โ I instructed him.
โGot it, Alpha. You can trust me; Iโll handle it,โ Thomas assured me.
Despite Thomas being discreet, news about Sara entering the race quickly spread. It wasnโt clear whether it was to boost the eventโs popularity or just to create a buzz. Either way, once the news of Sara joining the competition leaked, it stirred up quite a commotion in the racing world. Racers who had been sitting on the fence all decided to enter. After all, it was a rare chance to race alongside the internationally famous Sara, and they didnโt want to miss it.
Benjaminโs POV:
I was in my study handling management files for the pack when Henry suddenly burst into the room and exclaimed excitedly, โBen, Iโve got the latest scoop! Sara is joining the national racing event!โ
My heart jolted in shock, and I froze, my hand stopping mid-motion. I looked at Henry, asking again in disbelief, โWhat did you say? Sara is racing in this event?โ
Henry nodded eagerly and said, โI just received the news, and itโs all over the racing circles.โ
I was filled with a rush of joy. Taking a deep breath, I tried to calm my excitement before responding, โTell the organizers Iโll be joining the race too.โ
Henry was thrilled, and he said, โSure thing, Ben! Iโll send them an email right now. But, Benโฆ Are you doing this for the race, or is it really about Sara?โ
I couldnโt stop the memory from flooding backโthe moment when Sara glanced back at me three years ago during an international race. That brief glance stayed with me, etched in my mind forever. At that time, I thought, if my wolf couldnโt find his destined mate, I would choose Sara to be mine. But then Sara disappeared for three long years. Now, she was coming back. How could I possibly miss this opportunity?
Noticing my silence, Henry gave me a knowing look. โI get it now. Youโre going because of Sara, right?โ
โHonestly, I donโt know what it is about Sara that makes you so obsessed. Three years, Ben. Sheโs been on your mind all this time.โ
โBut Ben, youโre a bit strange yourself. Why do you always fall for these mysterious, reclusive people? Like that singer you like, Harmonyโso enigmatic.โ
โAnd this Sara, even though sheโs been in so many international races, no one knows anything about her. Weโve even used the packโs resources to try to dig up some private information, but weโve found nothing.โ
โTheyโre both oddballs, and yet, youโre drawn to them,โ Henry mused.
I wasnโt in the mood to listen to his ramblings. โBy the way, can you book me a flight? The sooner, the better.โ
Henry pressed his lips together and said, โGot it, Ben. Iโll have Tyrone handle it for you.โ
With that, he left the room. I couldnโt hide my excitement any longer. Sara, itโs been a long time. Are you coming back to the racing world? This time, I wonโt let you slip away.
