Chapter 244 Confidential

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

Pharis Thomas explained, โ€œThe list above is just a draft of invited participants; not all of them will actually show up.โ€

โ€œBenjamin has some recognition in the racing world, so itโ€™s completely normal to invite him. Whatโ€™s the matter? Donโ€™t you want to race with him?โ€

Well, thatโ€™s not the issue. My concern was that Benjamin might recognize me, and then I would have to explain myself. On top of that, Hera reacted intensely whenever she was near him. Iโ€™m worried that his presence at the event will affect my performance on the track.

โ€œIs it possible to get a confirmed list of participants?โ€ I asked.

Thomas responded, โ€œThatโ€™s still uncertain. Weโ€™ll only know for sure when we get to the race. But considering how busy Benjamin is with managing the company and the pack, he probably wonโ€™t have the time to attend this kind of event.โ€

That made sense. As long as I donโ€™t run into Benjamin at the race, I think I can give it a try. It would be a good opportunity to raise some funds for the kids at the orphanage.

โ€œAlright, have me reply to the organizers and tell them Iโ€™m confirmed to race. But keep it quiet,โ€ I instructed him.

โ€œGot it, Alpha. You can trust me; Iโ€™ll handle it,โ€ Thomas assured me.

Despite Thomas being discreet, news about Sara entering the race quickly spread. It wasnโ€™t clear whether it was to boost the eventโ€™s popularity or just to create a buzz. Either way, once the news of Sara joining the competition leaked, it stirred up quite a commotion in the racing world. Racers who had been sitting on the fence all decided to enter. After all, it was a rare chance to race alongside the internationally famous Sara, and they didnโ€™t want to miss it.

Benjaminโ€™s POV:

I was in my study handling management files for the pack when Henry suddenly burst into the room and exclaimed excitedly, โ€œBen, Iโ€™ve got the latest scoop! Sara is joining the national racing event!โ€

My heart jolted in shock, and I froze, my hand stopping mid-motion. I looked at Henry, asking again in disbelief, โ€œWhat did you say? Sara is racing in this event?โ€

Henry nodded eagerly and said, โ€œI just received the news, and itโ€™s all over the racing circles.โ€

I was filled with a rush of joy. Taking a deep breath, I tried to calm my excitement before responding, โ€œTell the organizers Iโ€™ll be joining the race too.โ€

Henry was thrilled, and he said, โ€œSure thing, Ben! Iโ€™ll send them an email right now. But, Benโ€ฆ Are you doing this for the race, or is it really about Sara?โ€

I couldnโ€™t stop the memory from flooding backโ€”the moment when Sara glanced back at me three years ago during an international race. That brief glance stayed with me, etched in my mind forever. At that time, I thought, if my wolf couldnโ€™t find his destined mate, I would choose Sara to be mine. But then Sara disappeared for three long years. Now, she was coming back. How could I possibly miss this opportunity?

Noticing my silence, Henry gave me a knowing look. โ€œI get it now. Youโ€™re going because of Sara, right?โ€

โ€œHonestly, I donโ€™t know what it is about Sara that makes you so obsessed. Three years, Ben. Sheโ€™s been on your mind all this time.โ€

โ€œBut Ben, youโ€™re a bit strange yourself. Why do you always fall for these mysterious, reclusive people? Like that singer you like, Harmonyโ€”so enigmatic.โ€

โ€œAnd this Sara, even though sheโ€™s been in so many international races, no one knows anything about her. Weโ€™ve even used the packโ€™s resources to try to dig up some private information, but weโ€™ve found nothing.โ€

โ€œTheyโ€™re both oddballs, and yet, youโ€™re drawn to them,โ€ Henry mused.

I wasnโ€™t in the mood to listen to his ramblings. โ€œBy the way, can you book me a flight? The sooner, the better.โ€

Henry pressed his lips together and said, โ€œGot it, Ben. Iโ€™ll have Tyrone handle it for you.โ€

With that, he left the room. I couldnโ€™t hide my excitement any longer. Sara, itโ€™s been a long time. Are you coming back to the racing world? This time, I wonโ€™t let you slip away.
