Hayleyโs Destined Mate
Chapter 251: Jealousy
Beniaminโs POV:
When Harel called out to me, I wasnโt asleep yet, so I responded softly.
โCanโt sleep? I canโt eitherโฆโ Hazel said, turning over to face me.
I wasnโt sure what was wrong with me. I was used to sleeping alone, but now that there was suddenly someone else in the room, I couldnโt fall asleep at all. Even my wolf, Lawrence, seemed restless.
โIf you canโt sleep, just close your eyes. Youโll fall asleep eventually,โ I said, closing my eyes right away.
But, for no reason, my mind suddenly flashed back to the time at the Kilmersโ banquet, lying in the same bed as Hayley. Those scenes were so vivid, carved into my memory. The next second, I snapped my eyes open.
Staring at the ceiling, all I could think about was Hayleyโs face, and even my breathing grew heavier. Out of nowhere, my body began to heat up.
I was startled by my own reaction. Quickly, I took a few deep breaths, forcing those messy thoughts out of my mind. Only then did my body slowly calm down.
Right after, I sat up abruptly and explained to Hazel, โIโm going out to the balcony to get some fresh air.โ Without waiting for a response, I threw off the blanket, got out of bed, and walked straight to the balcony.
Standing there, staring at the city late at night, I absentmindedly pulled out my phone. I stared at that familiar number on the screen. At that moment, I actually felt like calling Hayley. But it was so lateโshe was probably already asleep.
Gripping my phone tightly, I hesitated for a moment, then finally went back inside the room.
Hayleyโs POV:
When Benjamin came back from the balcony, I tried to make small talk with him.
โMr. Southwell, is this the first time youโve shared a room with a woman?โ I asked casually, more out of curiosity than anything else, though I was secretly looking forward to his answer.
Benjamin answered firmly, โNo.โ
Hearing his response, a sudden pang of discomfort rose in my chest. I was jealousโcompletely and utterly jealous. He said โNo,โ which meant that he had shared a bed with other women before, maybe even mated with them.
Even my wolf, Hera, started to get restless. I knew she was far more possessive of him than I was.
โWith who?โ The moment the words left my mouth, I regretted them; I wanted to bite my tongue off. But Benjamin just gave a light reply. โMs. Hazel, youโre asking too many questions.โ
I didnโt say anything else after that. My heart felt even heavier, and my mind kept spinning with thoughts about who it could have beenโwho Benjamin might have mated with in the past.
โMs. Hazel, get some rest,โ he said, turning over to face away from me. Seeing that, I also turned my back to him and shut my eyes.
Sometime in the middle of the night, I finally fell asleep. When I woke up, Benjamin was already gone. I looked around the large, empty room, and to my surprise, I felt a little hollow inside.
The sunlight streaming through the window was warm and comforting, though, and the weather looked nice. I stretched, then got up to freshen myself.
The original hotel I was staying at had suffered significant damage from a sudden fire last night. Luckily, the fire was extinguished quickly and didnโt spread too far, so it wasnโt a total disaster. My room hadnโt been affected, so after returning to the hotel, I gathered all my things and checked out without hesitation.
I hopped into my sleek sports car and drove straight to the racetrack where tonightโs exclusive race was going to take place. For some reason, I felt a little excited.
After parking in the underground garage, I turned off the engine and started looking for my car keys. But they were gone. I searched everywhere and still couldnโt find them. I thought maybe Iโd left them somewhere else.
I figured it wasnโt a big deal since I had a spare set of keys at home, so I decided to let it go for now. Just as I was about to get out of the car, though, I suddenly heard a manโs voice.
