Chapter 261: She Feels So Distressed

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

In that moment, my mind went completely blank. My voice trembled as I asked, โ€œWhat did you say?โ€ After struggling to say those words, I almost stumbled and fell.

Thomas spoke seriously, โ€œThere was a three-car collision. The scene is a wreck. Benjamin, they say, has been taken to the hospital.โ€

My hands shook as I asked, โ€œWhich hospital? Iโ€™ll go right now.โ€

Thomas quickly gave me the hospitalโ€™s address. I was just about to rush out, letting my body take control, to race over there when I bumped into Tyrone. He didnโ€™t know what had happened, but seeing the look on my face, he asked with concern, โ€œMs. Carson, whatโ€™s wrong?โ€

I grabbed his arm and forced out a few words, โ€œSuminerstone Hospital, take me there quickly. Something happened to Benjamin.โ€

Tyroneโ€™s face changed with shock. Just then, he got a phone call, and his face darkened even more. After hanging up, Tyrone said hoarsely, โ€œMs. Carson, I take you to the hospital.โ€

We hurried to the hospital. In the hallway, I saw Benjamin. Blood stained his clothes, and his face was marked with bruises. He was slumped against the wall, looking utterly defeated. He was in a state of unprecedented agitation. She was suffering, as she sensed his emotions. And I, too, was in great pain.

โ€œBenjamin, are you okay?โ€ I stepped forward to ask. Tyrone quickly added, โ€œAlpha, how are you?โ€

Benjamin lifted his eyes to meet mine. At that moment, his gaze was filled with a sadness I had never seen before. My heart tightened as I suddenly realized something. I quickly asked, โ€œGrandpa Southwell? How is he?โ€

Benjamin opened his mouth, his voice dry and weak as he slowly said, โ€œHeโ€™s still inside for emergency rescue.โ€ Those few words seemed to drain all of his energy. Once the leader of a powerful pack, Benjamin now looked fragile and vulnerable.

My heart sank. I glanced up at the operating room and found the lights still on. Inside, I silently prayedโ€”please, let Grandpa Southwell be alright.

Alpha, donโ€™t worry, Old Mr. Southwell will be fine,โ€ Tyrone quickly reassured me. But only I knew how empty and powerless those words felt.

I looked up at the ceiling, my mind replaying the moment of the car crash. Grandpa had transformed into a wolf, shielding me. Even before Lawrence could emerge, Grandpa had already acted, putting himself in harmโ€™s way to protect me. I only had a few minor injuries, but he had lost consciousness right there.

Suddenly, my eyes turned red and tears welled up in my eyes, and I quickly wiped them away. โ€œGrandpa will be okay. Heโ€™ll be okay.โ€ I wasnโ€™t sure if I was trying to comfort Hayley or myself. It felt like those words were the only thing that could offer me solace.

At that moment, the lights in the operating room went out, and the doctor came out. Hayley and I hurried to meet him. โ€œDoctor, how is he? Howโ€™s my grandpa?โ€ I gripped the doctorโ€™s arm tightly, pleading.

The doctor removed his mask and sighed. โ€œAlpha, Iโ€™m sorry. Weโ€™ve done everything we can. His injuries were too severe, but he hung on just long enough. You can go in and say goodbye.โ€

When Hayley heard this, she collapsed against the wall, while I immediately rushed inside.

โ€œGrandpa!โ€ On the hospital bed, Grandpa no longer looked like his old self. He seemed to be fading away. When he saw me, he weakly extended his hand. โ€œGood boy, donโ€™t be sad. Itโ€™s going to be alright.โ€

I grabbed his hand tightly and said, โ€œGrandpa, Iโ€™m so sorry! Itโ€™s my fault!โ€

He smiled faintly. โ€œSilly child, no need for apologies. The pack and company are your responsibility now. Take good care of them. I believe in you.โ€

I looked at him, weak, desperately holding back the tears I felt burning in my eyes. โ€œI know, Grandpa. Donโ€™t worry! Iโ€™ll take care of the pack and company.โ€

When Grandpa heard this, he seemed to relax, but then he added, โ€œThereโ€™s one more thing. I need to tell you before itโ€™s too late.โ€ He suddenly began coughing violently.

I quickly promised, โ€œGrandpa, if thereโ€™s anything you need, just tell me. Iโ€™ll take care of it for you.โ€

Grandpa nodded with a look of relief. โ€œGood boy, I know youโ€™re a good person. This decisionโ€ฆ itโ€™s something Iโ€™ve thought about for a long time.โ€
