Chapter 38: Finally Impressed by Me
Hayleyโs POV:
โNo problem! As the Shadow Pack Alpha, I wonโt let us lose!โ Hera was brimming with confidence, filled with energy and determination.
The second set began without delay. As I stepped onto the court, a wave of focus washed over me, and I vowed to give this game everything I had. I soon won the set.
After winning the first set, my opponent had clearly underestimated me. She thought I was just an easy-to-handle Omega and had already set her sights on securing the championship. But she didnโt expect me to turn the match around. As I shifted the momentum, she began to panic. Sensing her weakness, I took full advantage, delivering several powerful aces and pushing the score to match point.
The crowd erupted into cheers, and as I glanced toward the stands, I caught sight of Henry. His face had turned sour. He probably never imagined that I might actually win.
I smiled inwardly, dismissing the thought, and focused on the final serve. Another perfect ace! My opponent collapsed to the ground in defeat, unable to cope.
I won! The audience exploded with applause, the sound almost deafening. After the award ceremony, I did a quick interview with the media and then took the time to sign autographs for the fans crowding around me. His face had a different sign.
That was when Henry pushed through the sea of people, walking right up to me. โUggoโno, Hayley.โ It was rare to hear him use my real name politely.
โI lost our bet fair and square. I wonโt bother you again. From now on, I acknowledge you as my boss.โ I could see the sincerity in his eyes, and for the first time, I knew he was truly impressed.
โAlright, letโs get along from now on.โ I grinned and gave him a friendly pat on the shoulder.
And just like that, I became a tennis star, all while hiding behind my fake Omega identity. I received countless endorsement offers, but I had all the income sent to my Beta to be invested in charitable causes. I continued living in the Midnight Pack as the plain and โuglyโ Omega, sticking to the one-year agreement Iโd made with my Grandpa.
After returning to school, I had officially become a campus celebrity.
One day, after Spanish class, our teacher, Ms. Anne, excitedly called me into her office. โHayley, did you study Spanish while you were with the Midnight Pack in Phoenix City?โ she asked.
I thought for a moment and then nodded. Anne smiled warmly. โTo be honest, your Spanish is nearly at the native-speaker level. And youโve shown a lot of confidence too. It just so happens that thereโs a state-level Spanish public speaking competition coming up next month. Iโd like to recommend you and Rachel to participate. What do you think?โ
A Spanish public speaking competition? I wasnโt particularly interested, so I declined right away. โIโm sorry, Ms. Anne, but Iโm not really interested in the competition. I think Iโll pass.โ
Anne smiled gently at me. โThatโs alright. You still have some time to think about it. You can decide later.โ
I thought for a moment before responding, โAlright, Iโll think it over. Thanks, Iโll head out now.โ โSure, take care,โ she said.
The moment I stepped out of her office, I found myself face-to-face with Rachel, who had clearly been waiting for me.
