Chapter 391: Meeting Odessa for the First Time
Hayleyโs POV:
โBen!โ Christopher called out, jogging over. โDad, Mom, you both have worked hard.โ
Axel beamed, his energy practically radiating. โDonโt worry about me. As a former Alpha, Iโm still in great shape! Itโll take more than this to bring me down.โ
Odessa Draycott, Benjaminโs mother and the former Ina of the Midnight Pack, spoke up, her voice elegant and composed: โAlways trying to act tough, are we? You never know when to take it easy. If Ben hadnโt shown up in time, the outcome could have been much worse.โ
Axel scratched the back of his head with an awkward chuckle. โAlright, alright. Canโt you let me save a little face in front of our son?โ
โMr. Southwell, Mrs. Southwell, youโve worked hard. Go back and rest early,โ Tanner said, leading them to the exit.
Finally, I had a moment alone with Benjamin. We locked eyes, a deep connection between us, as if there was so much we wanted to say. Benjamin reached out first. At Heraโs urging, I couldnโt help but smile and quickly throw myself into his arms.
โYouโre back.โ
Benjamin gently stroked my hair. โSorry for making you worry.โ
I slowly pulled away, and with my mask still in place, he didnโt notice anything different about my face. I planned to tell him the truth before he noticed anything, so I said, โLetโs go! We should head back.โ
With Benjamin holding me close, we walked out of the airport. As soon as we reached the door, Odessa couldnโt help but speak up. โBen, hurry up! Stop dragging your feet.โ
This wasnโt my first time meeting Odessa; we had exchanged brief pleasantries at Grandpa Southwellโs funeral, but we hadnโt really talked much. So, I still didnโt know about her personality or temperament. I politely greeted her. However, she didnโt even spare me a glance. She just got into the car without a word!
Feeling a bit awkward, I turned to Benjamin. โDo you think Mrs. Southwell doesnโt like me?โ
Benjamin immediately wrapped his arms around me. โDonโt worry. Sheโs probably just tired from the flight. Letโs take the car in the back.โ
I didnโt say anything, but my wolf, Hera, could clearly sense Odessaโs hostility. Seeing her clear disapproval stung, and I couldnโt hide my disappointment as I bit my lip. When we got home, I gently pulled on Benjaminโs arm.
โCan you come to the room with me? I need to talk to you.โ
Just as he was about to follow, Odessaโs voice called out, โBen, come help me with the luggage.โ
I sighed softly and said, โYou go ahead. Iโm fine.โ
Benjamin gave me a comforting glance before stepping forward to help Odessa with her luggage. Odessa was all smiles to everyone else, but since we arrived, she had always ignored me.
Lista, observing the situation, kindly spoke up. โMrs. Southwell, Ms. Carson is a good child.โ
At those words, Odessa finally turned her gaze to me, her expression softening slightly.
