Chapter 393: Deceive You
Hayleyโs POV:
โWhy? Why did you pretend to be ugly?โ he growled, his eyes bloodshot as he glared at me. โDo you know what I hate the most?โ
I remembered that it was exactly for this reason that I had decided to tell him everything. But each time I tried, something would always stop me before I could speak the truth.
โIโm sorry! I just wanted to find a man who wouldnโt judge me by my looks, someone who would love me for who I truly am.โ
โI never meant to deceive you. I thought Iโd stay here for a year and then leave, butโฆ I never expected to fall in love with you.โ
And I never could have imagined that you would be my destined mateโฆ
Benjaminโs brow furrowed deeply as he stared at me, lost in thought for what felt like an eternity. I braced myself, expecting him to scold me or stay angry.
After a while, he spoke up. โSo, it was you in France. Ms. Hazel?โ
โIt was me! Actuallyโฆโ I started to explain, but before I could finish, Benjamin reached out and gently touched my head.
โI never would have guessed. Your disguise was so good, you even managed to fool me,โ he said, his tone softening.
I looked up at him, still in disbelief. โYouโฆ youโre not angry anymore?โ
Benjamin gave a resigned smile. โI want to be angry, but for some reason, when I look at your face, all my anger just disappears.โ
โIโm sorry,โ I said, feeling guilty.
Benjamin gently ruffled my hair. โItโs okay, donโt apologize. I understand your feelings, and honestly, Iโm just relieved I was able to keep you with me.โ
โI also saw the surprise you prepared for me. I never expected my future Luna to be so beautiful! You design clothes, and even as an Omega, youโre incredibly talented. Iโm really proud of you.โ
I pretended to be upset. โWasnโt it just the other day you complained about how ugly I was?โ
Before I could finish, Benjamin kissed me, silencing my words. Hera, excited, practically urged me to take things further right then and there. But I was a little angry and quickly slapped his shoulder, โUghโฆ let me go!โ
He sighed, reluctantly letting me go, but still holding me gently. His tone turned serious. โHayley, Iโve never disliked you. Not before, not now, and I never will. So you canโt say things like that anymore.โ
โYou donโt even know, when I first saw your face, I started to worry. I was afraid other men would notice you, that theyโd want you. I just wanted to keep you to myself, to hide you away so only I could admire your beauty,โ
I didnโt tell him that, as his destined mate, my possessiveness for him ran even deeper.
Benjamin went on. โYou have no idea how many surprises youโve given me. Sometimes I think to myself, the mate I chose is the best werewolf out there! I feel like I really hit the jackpot!โ
I reached out and took his hand, speaking from the heart, โThank you, Benjamin. Thank you for choosing me.โ
Odessa was secretly pleased when she saw Benjamin and Hayley arguing. However, by dinnertime, not only had they reconciled, but the atmosphere between them seemed even better than before. This left her confused and upset.
Hayleyโs POV:
โHayley, come here for a moment.โ Hearing Odessa call me, I quickly set down what I was doing and walked over.
โMrs. Southwell, is there something you need?โ
Odessa rubbed her shoulder and replied, โIโm not sure whatโs going on, but my arm feels a bit sore. If youโre free, could you help me massage it?โ
Seeing it wasnโt anything serious, I agreed, โOf course, please sit on the sofa, and Iโll give you a massage.โ
I led Odessa to the living room.
โMrs. Southwell, which side of your neck is bothering you?โ I asked politely.
However, Odessaโs response was cold as she said, โJust press anywhere.โ Her tone and attitude were a stark contrast to how she had been before. Although I was puzzled, I continued to massage her as requested.
Odessa, engrossed in her phone, eventually looked up and said, โHayley, your marriage to Ben was arranged by Old Mr. Southwell. Old Mr. Southwell left so suddenly, without any final instructions, but he did mention your marriage to Ben. So, I decided to respect his wishes and arranged the engagement between you two.โ
โHowever, the reality is that youโre just an Omega from a small pack in Phoenix City. Youโre not fit to be the future Luna of Midnight Pack, and youโre certainly not worthy of my son, Alpha Benjamin!โ
Hearing her words, Hera stirred restlessly within me, and my heart tightened with pain.
