Chapter 40: Giving My Body to Hera
Hayleyโs POV:
After dinner with George, I returned to my room to attend to some necessary Shadow Pack business. I was halfway through my work when I received a call from my aunt, Ivana.
โHayz, Iโm at Missyโs Hideaway. Got time to come have a drink with me?โ
I checked the time, closed my laptop, and agreed. โSure, Iโll be there soon.โ
After hanging up, I straightened my outfit, making sure I looked as plain as usual, then grabbed my bag and headed out the door.
When I arrived at Missyโs Hideaway, I searched for Ivana before spotting her, drunk out of her mind, in a dark corner.
โAunt Ivana!โ
Ivana squinted her eyes open, saw me, and immediately pulled me into a hug. โHayz, youโre here! Come on, have a drink with me.โ
โAunt Ivana, youโre already this drunk. You canโt keep drinking. Letโs go; Iโll take you home.โ
But she shook me off, saying, โNo! Iโm not going home. I want to drink, keep drinkingโฆโ She grabbed another bottle and continued drinking. Since I couldnโt stop her, I gave up trying.
I knew Ivana well. She was usually sharp and carefree, but today I sensed something was amiss. So I sat down beside her, picked up a glass of my own, and joined in. โAlright. Aunt Ivana, cheers!โ
She laughed. โCheers!โ
One drink after another, we downed several glasses. I was starting to feel a little drunk, but Ivana acted like nothing was wrong. Still holding her glass, she grabbed my hand and pulled me onto the dance floor.
Ivana danced without a care in the world, and for once, I decided to let loose too. After all, nobody here knew who I was.
We danced wildly, drawing cheers and whistles from the crowd. Almost 80% of the men in the place had their eyes on us.
Of course, I knew most of them were mesmerized by Ivana. As for me, just having this face was enough to keep them at a distance.
โHey, beautiful, can I buy you a drink?โ A man pushed past me, trying to chat up Ivana. Normally, she wouldโve brushed him off without a second thought.
But today, to my surprise, Ivana smiled and said, โSure!โ She let him pull her off the dance floor, and I tried to follow, but several men blocked my way.
โWhat do you guys want? Get out of my way!โ
โHaha, relax. Youโre an Oinega. Weโre not interested in doing anything to you. Just donโt get in the way of other peopleโs fun.โ
Their threat angered me, and I could feel Hera, my wolf, growing restless inside me. I barely held back the urge to reveal my Alpha status and let Hera rip them apart. Instead, I shouted, โMove!โ
โWell, look at that! Ugly face, but fiery temper. I like it.โ
My expression darkened, and I couldnโt help but curse, โF*ck off!โ
The men just grinned like thugs, making no effort to step aside. I scoffed, then kicked one of them hard. Within seconds, I had him flat on the ground, beaten.
I was honestly surprised at how weak he was. I didnโt even need to let Hera take overโmy combat skills alone were enough to take him down easily.
โYou b*tch! Iโll teach you a lesson,โ the man snarled as he lunged at me, but I was quick. I sidestepped, then kicked him straight in the groin. The sound of his scream filled the air as he clutched himself, his face turning beet red.
The others saw this and immediately got serious. They shifted into wolves, baring their fangs and snapping their jaws, ready to attack.
I moved to shield Ivana, and just as I was about to let Hera take overโ
There was a sudden, sharp cracking sound. A scream echoed through the bar.
