Alpha Hayleyโs Destined Mate
Chapter 540: Being Held Accountable
Hayleyโs POV:
Fortunately, we were both Alphas, blessed with strong resistance to collisions, so we managed to stay conscious the whole time. Benjamin reacted quickly, slamming on the brakes and bringing the car to a steady stop.
โAre you okay? Did you get hurt?โ he asked, unbuckling his seatbelt and leaning over to check on me.
I shook my head lightly, reassuring him, โIโm fine.โ
The crash was entirely our fault. Right turns werenโt allowed here, but Benjamin seemed distracted for a while and eventually made an illegal right turn.
โStep out and wait for me over there. Iโll park the car on the side and let Tyrone take care of it,โ Benjamin said, patting my head to comfort me.
My thoughts were completely focused on how to deal with Daniel, so I didnโt think much about it. I unbuckled my seatbelt, stepped out of the car, and waited by the roadside.
As I stepped out, the driver of the other car had already knocked on Benjaminโs window. After a brief conversation between them, Benjamin opened the car door and told me, โThey are not holding us accountable. Letโs go.โ
I immediately sensed something was off. I had taken a quick glance when I stepped out. The other car was a luxury vehicle. The repair fee would cost a fortune, and Benjamin was the one at fault. It didnโt make sense for them to let it slide so easily.
Could the other party also be a high-ranking werewolf like Benjamin? Or perhaps a fellow werewolf from the Midnight Pack who recognized Benjaminโs Alpha status, so they let it slide?
As the thought crossed my mind, I couldnโt help but glance back at the other car. The two cars were still in their collision positions and werenโt far from where I was standing. I could faintly see the people inside the other car. The driver was in the driverโs seat, but the back seat looked crowded with three or four people squeezing together. That didnโt make sense. For someone wealthy enough to hire a driver, comfort should be their priority. Why would they cram together when thereโs other space left?
As I was pondering this, an elderly woman stumbled out and shouted in panic, โHelp! Call the police! Someone, help me!โ
I took a closer lookโit was Mrs. Laurel! Since I knew her, there was no way I could stand by and do nothing. I quickly ran over to help her and calmed her down, โMrs. Laurel, itโs me, Hayley. Donโt worry, Iโm here toโฆโ
โHayley! Youโre such a good girl!โ Mrs. Laurel was visibly relieved to see me. She grabbed my arm tightly.
โI recognized you the moment you got out of the car. Even though youโre an Omega, your fiancรฉ is an Alpha. He must be able to help me, so I took the chance to escape from that car. You must save me, and my daughter-in-law too!โ she said while dragging me to the car.
I didnโt resist and followed her lead as I craned my neck to see whatโs happening inside the car. It didnโt take me long to spot Freyaโs mentally disabled mother in there. She was being held by a burly Beta.
I stared at him, quickly planning my next move. If I didnโt reveal my Alpha status, thereโs no way I could take him on in such tight space. Besides, I didnโt want Benjamin to get involved in this mess.
After thinking for a while, I raised my voice and warned him, โYour accomplices had fled, and the police will be here any minute. Are you sure you want to keep holding them hostage with all these cars passing by and people watching? Once you get caught, theyโll strip you of your wolf. Youโll end up worse than an Omega. Are you really willing to risk it?โ
The man hesitated for a moment before shoving Freyaโs mother away, then transformed into a wolf and darted away. I quickly caught Mrs. Virginia before she could fall.
I was about to ask if she was hurt when Hera suddenly said, โHayley, thereโs a scent on her that feels strangely familiar.โ
