Alpha Hayleyโs Destined Mate
Chapter 562: Got Time to Talk?
Hayleyโs POV:
Did he notice something?! I panicked for a moment, quickly taking a deep breath and forcing myself to stay calm. When I saw he didnโt press further, I turned my head away and said nothing more.
After Odessa left the police station, she was completely distracted. Her thoughts kept drifting back to the words Benjamin and Hayley had said when they left. Axel called her name, but she didnโt respond.
โWhatโs going on with you? Thereโs something off with you since you came back this afternoon,โ Axel said, setting down his wine glass and deciding to have a serious talk with her.
โItโs nothing,โ Odessa replied absentmindedly.
Ever since George forced him out of the Midnight Packโs alpha position after his wolf was severely injured, he had lost all motivation. He didnโt even bother with family affairs anymore. Talking to him about it felt pointless.
Axel wanted to say something, but Odessaโs phone rang before he could. She didnโt even glance at it, just answered and held it to her ear. โWhoโs this?โ
โItโs me, Mrs. Southwell. Do you have time to talk?โ
When Odessa heard Tinaโs voice, she glanced at Axel, then stood up and walked to the balcony with the phone. After closing the glass door, Odessa raised her voice. โIf you have something to say, just say it.โ
โWell then, Iโll get straight to the point. You must know about my son and Hayley by now, so you probably understand why Iโm reaching out to you.โ
Tinaโs tone was calm, without a hint of pleading. She had always been treated like royalty, holding her head high and never learning to humble herself. Odessa didnโt mind that, but when it came to Hayley and Benjamin, she honestly didnโt know how to respond.
Seeing that Odessa didnโt reply right away, Tina continued on her own. โYoung people are proud and hot-headed; a little conflict is normal, but you canโt only focus on whatโs right in front of you. The Ortegas and the Southwells are influential families. For the good of your Midnight Pack, you canโt afford to cut ties with our family. Donโt you agree?โ

Let alone Hayley.
โMrs. Southwell!โ Tina noticed Odessaโs tone soften, and her attitude immediately became more forceful. โJonah and Daniel will eventually take responsibility for the future of the Ortega family. If anything happens to them, I canโt guarantee that the rest of the family wonโt take drastic measures. And if your Midnight Packโs safety gets dragged into this, itโll be beyond our control!โ
Odessa fell silent, fully aware that while the Ortegas were also werewolves, they had witch blood in their ancestry and were capable of any cruel tactics. If they were pushed too far, it would definitely threaten the safety of the Midnight Pack. Itโs better to have one more friend than one more enemy.
After a brief silence, Odessa seemed to make up her mind. She spoke into the phone, โIโll give it a try, but I canโt make any promises. And donโt think itโs because the Southwells are afraid of the Ortegasโthis is me, Odessa, doing you a favor!โ
Then, she hung up the phone with a sharp snap. She was the sole mistress of the Southwells, and no one intimidated her like that. Although she was angry, she opened her contacts and dialed a number with a grey profile picture. The phone connected right away. Skipping the pleasantries, she went straight to the point, asking, โWhere is he now?โ
Hayleyโs POV:
Benjamin and I made a quick trip to the supermarket, bought a bunch of groceries, and after dropping me off at my door, he went back to work. While I was cooking, Virginia came in to help. But she was used to a life of luxury, and even if she wasnโt feeling great, she was always attended to by servants, so all she could do was wash the vegetables. She always smiled at me, her demeanor kind and warm, and she loved chatting with me.
โMs. Carson, youโre truly rareโso talented, kind, and smart. Your cooking skills are impressive, too. Youโre not any less than those top alphas.โ
โThatโs not true. You just havenโt met enough people. There are still plenty of good girls in the world,โ I said casually.
โThatโs true,โ Virginia nodded, then sighed heavily. โI really havenโt been out much lately to see the world.โ
Realizing Iโd said something wrong, I paused in my chopping, feeling guilty. I quickly reassured her, โThereโs no rush. Youโve got plenty of time.โ
But Virginia sighed again, her tone full of pessimism. โWith that so-called daughter of mine around, I doubt Iโll ever get the chance.โ

Her words made me feel unexpectedly sad, too. Heraโs mournful howl echoed inside me as well.
I thought to myself that maybe it was because I hadnโt lived as an alpha for so long, that my emotions had started to take over, making me more sensitive and easily affected. Thinking about Freyaโthat villainโI pondered for a while before making a decision. I put the knife down, looked up at Virginia with a serious expression, and sincerely promised, โI can help you. Just ask, and Iโll clean up the mess for you.โ
