Chapter 565: Confession
Benjaminโs POV:
โTell me now. Who sent you?โ I demanded harshly.
โNo one. Iโm a journalist. I have the right to take photos in public places. Youโve misunderstood,โ he replied. Although he sounded polite, he didnโt seem to fear me. This must mean whoever sent him was someone powerful.
โIs that so?โ I exerted bone-crushing force to his left wrist.
โAhโโ He immediately howled in pain.
I calmly reached for his other hand and threatened, โNow, your right wrist.โ
โIโll talk, Iโll talk!โ He immediately surrendered, trembling as he confessed, โIt was your mother, Mrs. Southwell, who sent me. She wanted me to keep track of your movements at all times.โ
โAlpha, please spare me. I am simply following Mrs. Southwellโs orders.โ
As I stared at his pitiful face, I released him with disdain. I had a feeling my mother wanted to cause trouble for the Carsons while I was away. So, I immediately rushed to their residence.
The moment I arrived, I could tell something was amiss. Bill, who used to be on good terms with me, was strangely antagonistic. Although he said nothing, I could tell from his eyes that he wanted me gone.
My mother had her back to me. Unaware of my presence, she was still mocking Hayley.
โThese are just pretty words. Anyone can say that. You must know that actions always speak louder than words, right? Ask your granddaughter, is she willing to leave my son?โ
โIn the end, Hayley would marry into the Southwells and become the Luna of our Midnight Pack. If thatโs the case, whatโs wrong with her adapting to our rules in advance?โ
I could barely contain my anger as I heard this, but she had no intention of stopping.
โItโs not like Iโm asking Hayley to commit murder or arson. I am just asking her to apologize to the Ortegas. Itโs a simple matter, and as an Omega, Hayley will lose nothing. I donโt see what the problem is.โ
โOr, should I interpret it this way? Are you opposing me because you donโt like me, your future mother-in-law?โ
As she said that, she glared at Hayley with hostility. She wanted to push her to the edge.
Bill stole a glance at me and exploded in anger. โEnough, Mrs. Southwell! Hayley is my precious granddaughter. She will not act as a sacrificial lamb for the sake of the Midnight Pack! To think that you want to force Hayley to compromise. The Southwells are not worthy of that!โ
My mother wasnโt going to give up easily. She continued, โAre you saying that my son, an Alpha, is not worthy of Hayley, a mere Omega? This is the funniest joke Iโve heard! Youโโ
โEnough!โ I could no longer withstand her attitude as I interrupted her.
My mother turned around in disbelief.
โBen, why are you hereโฆ?โ She stood up. Her arrogant expression was replaced by a guilty one.
โDo you know why I suddenly came back here today?โ I towered over her, asking sternly, โYou sent someone to follow and investigate me. Are you that obsessed with controlling my life? Am I your son or a puppet you want for yourself?โ
โHow can you talk to me like thatโฆ?โ She couldnโt even look me in the eyes as she quibbled, โYou know that I always love you. I sent someone to follow you because I was concerned about your safety. You know, Irvingโฆโ
โEnough, I donโt want to hear your nonsense,โ I didnโt allow her to finish. I warned coldly, โThis will be my final reminder to you. Hayley is the last person you should concern yourself with. Sheโs my chosen mate, and nothing can change that!โ
โFrom now on, I donโt want you with Hayley when Iโm not around. Even if you still meet her, I will always side with her if a conflict arises.โ
โI donโt intend to sadden you, but if you insist on hurting my beloved girl, then I have no choice.โ
โWhatโฆ what do you mean by this?โ
She was taken aback by my words. Her eyes widened in fear, and her voice trembled as she asked, โAre you saying that you want to sever ties with me for Hayleyโs sake?โ
