Chapter 583: They Are Trouble
Hayleyโs POV:
โThatโs the one!โ The womanโs eyes lit up as she looked at the room number, squeezing the manโs arm excitedly. They exchanged a look of triumph, and she reached out to open the door behind me.
โStop right there!โ I called out, my senses immediately on alert. โWho are you?โ
The satisfied and smug look they shared didnโt go unnoticedโan expression full of calculation and opportunism. Heraโs reaction only confirmed my suspicions. From the moment they came closer, she radiated disgust, reinforcing my feeling that they were trouble.
The woman halted as I spoke, her smile faltering. She eyed me from head to toe, scoffing before she said, โWeโre the patientโs family. What about you?โ
โFamily?โ I raised an eyebrow, keeping my expression neutral as I studied them carefully. The Carsons werenโt known for having a large extended family. Those that we did have were close-knit, and I knew them all. But these two? I had never seen them before in my life. Their clothing was ordinary, nothing that would suggest they were related to us. Could they be distant relatives we hadnโt met?
While I was pondering, the middle-aged man, who had been silent up to this point, stepped forward, pushing the woman behind him. He looked at me with an air of arrogance, sneering as he said, โIโm the patientโs sonโJustin Carson. Weโre here to visit my mother. And what are you two doing, standing around outside her room?โ
His tone was so full of himself, I nearly laughed. The patientโs son? Was this some kind of joke? They werenโt even trying to cover up their scam properly. They hadnโt bothered to check anything about the Carson family. Grandma did have a son, but he had passed away over a decade ago. There was no way he could be standing here now. These two must have heard about her condition and were rushing to take advantage of it, hoping to get their hands on some of the Carsonsโ fortune.
Justin, growing annoyed, shot me a look of disdain. โCrazy womanโฆโ He then grabbed the womanโs shoulder and confidently walked toward the door, reaching for the handle.
In that moment, my instincts kicked in. I rushed forward, grabbing Justinโs hand. With one swift motion, I pinned him against the wall of the adjacent room.
โOh, my god! Who are these crazy people? Help! Someone call security. This lunatic is attacking me!โ The woman, seeing her partner in trouble, immediately began shouting for help.
I shot her a cold, menacing glare, my wolf eyes glowing with intensity. The sight of them made her freeze, her hands flying to her mouth as fear took over her. She was too scared to say anything.
โLet me go! What right do you have to touch me?โ Justinโs face was half-pressed against the wall, but he was still trying to sound wronged. His eyes flicked toward Benjamin, and with a sneer, he scoffed, โYou must know this crazy woman, huh? Hurry up and pull her off me. If I get hurt, youโll regret it.โ
Benjamin and I exchanged a look of understanding, then he calmly replied, โI truly feel sorry for your situation. But, unfortunately, Iโm just someone without a wolf. I canโt fight her. If I intervene, she might retaliate, and I would have to face the consequences.โ
โDonโt worry,โ Justin boasted. โWith me here, nothing will happen to you. Do you even know who the Carsons are?โ He puffed out his chest with pride. โWeโre the ruling family of Shadow Pack! We have money! Save me, and Iโll have Shadow Packโs Beta warriors take care of this woman!โ
As soon as Justin finished speaking, I tightened my grip, making him yelp in pain. โHow are you so strong? Youโre just an Omega, just like me!โ he screamed.
โMay, go call security, quick!โ he shouted at the woman who was still trembling in fear.
โOkay, okay!โ May Carson nodded quickly, turning to rush downstairs. But just as she moved, a large hand shot out from the side, blocking her path. Benjamin stood tall above her, his expression suddenly cold. The Alpha aura emanated from him, and his wolf eyes glinted with a sharp intensity as he stared her down.
