Alpha Hayleyโs Destined Mate
Chapter 586: Without Beta Warriors Patrolling
Hayleyโs POV:
Benjaminโs words brought me back to reality. โYour grandmother is fine here. My people will keep an eye on her. But your grandfather is alone at homeโare you sure you want to leave him by himself?โ
The mention of Grandpa made me pause. I glanced inside the room at May, who was doting on Grandma as she made tea, and my concern for Grandpa softened just a bit. Looking back at Grandma, I made up my mind. โLetโs go home.โ
Thirty minutes later, we pulled up to my house in the city. This wasnโt the Carson estate within Shadow Packโs borders, and without Beta warriors patrolling, I couldnโt help but feel uneasy about leaving Grandpa here by himself.
Inside, I found Grandpa resting on the couch. I approached him quietly and greeted him in a soft voice, โGrandpa, weโre home. Grandmaโs doing well today.โ
Grandpa lifted his head slowly, his movements sluggish. As soon as his eyes focused, Justin appeared, walking toward him.
โDad, Iโm back!โ
Grandpaโs sharp gaze locked onto him, and after a long, heavy silence, he grabbed his cane and slammed it hard on the floor. The sound echoed through the room.
โYou b*stard! What the hell are you doing back here? You shouldโve stayed dead where you were! Get out! Get out!โ
Grandpaโs anger boiled over. In a sudden rush of emotion, he stood up, pushing Justin toward the door. Then he stopped, pointing at him with a fury that seemed capable of igniting the air. โI donโt want to see you! Get outโnow!โ
But Justin, annoyingly calm, just laughed. โItโs alright, Dad. I know I messed up, and youโre right to yell at me. But I came back today because I hope you can forgive me. Youโre getting older. Iโm your only son. I came back to be with you and Mom, to take care of you both.โ
Grandpa let out a snarl, baring his teeth. โYou ungrateful fool! Donโt think I donโt know what youโre after. Youโre not here to help us. Youโre after the Carsonsโ fortune and the power of Shadow Pack!โ
โDad, calm down! Youโre not the Alpha you once were. Watch your blood pressure, or you might literally drop dead from all this stress!โ Justin continued, that same obnoxious grin on his face.
โYou littleโฆโ Grandpaโs fury seemed to seize him, and suddenly, he clutched his chest and collapsed back into the chair.
Benjamin and I rushed to him, catching him just in time and helping him sit back down.
Once Grandpa was settled, I pulled out the silver needles I always kept with me and gently pricked his left hand, working quickly. After a few swift and careful movements, Grandpa began to regain his composure.
From the side, Justin mocked, โLook at you, Dad. Your health is terrible. If May and I hadnโt come back, what would have happened to you? Who would take care of the Carsonsโ businesses and the interests of Shadow Pack if something had happened to you?โ
That was when it hit meโJustin, just like the rest of them, had no idea Iโd already secretly taken over as the Alpha of Shadow Pack. He still thought he might inherit the position!
โShut up!โ I snapped, my patience finally wearing thin. โIโve had enough of your nonsense. Keep talking, and Iโll make sure you regret it.โ
Justin shot me a defiant look, though his bravado seemed shaken. โWhatโs your problem? Since when did it become your place to interrupt the adults? Who the hell do you think you are, acting like an elder?โ
I glared at him, my voice cold. โGrandpa and Grandma are the only family I have left. If anyone dares to harm them, no matter who they are, Iโll make them pay.โ
Justin sneered. โOh, so youโre planning to go up against me now, huh? Iโm not falling for it. This is my house. You think someone like you can just throw me out?โ
Grandpa suddenly opened his eyes wide, weakly pointing at Justin. โYouโฆ you need to shut up!โ
โShut up? Why should I shut up? The one who needs to keep quiet is Hayley!โ Justin spat at me, his grin dripping with disdain. โPfft, you think youโre something special? An adopted granddaughter with no blood relation, trying to act like family, giving orders to me, their biological son?โ
My hands clenched into fists, trying to contain the rage boiling inside me. Hera, too, was growling within me, her fury matching my own. She wanted nothing more than to tear him apart.
