Alpha Hayleyโ€™s Destined Mate

Chapter 588: Shut Myself Off from the World

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

I gently covered Grandpa with a blanket, my voice soft as I spoke, โ€œI overheard you and Grandma talking about it once. I heard everything.โ€

Grandpaโ€™s expression changed instantly, a blend of guilt and worry crossing his face. He was silent for a long moment, and when he finally spoke, his voice was heavy with emotion. โ€œHayley, your Grandma and I have always considered you our real granddaughter.โ€

โ€œI know,โ€ I responded quietly, placing my hand on his in reassurance. โ€œI feel the same way. Donโ€™t worry. Iโ€™m fine.โ€

Grandpa let out another sigh, but he didnโ€™t say anything more. He knew me too well. He understood that when things got overwhelming, I tended to shut myself off from the world. I could sense his concern, but I kept my face neutral, giving nothing away.

Grandpa stared up at the ceiling, lost in thought. Then, almost as if remembering something, he turned his gaze toward Benjamin, filled with a quiet, expectant look. In that moment, I could see he was starting to respect Benjamin, approving of us being together.

Virginia stood against the wall, her mouth hanging open in shock. She had heard everythingโ€”loud and clear. Hayley isnโ€™t really a Carsonโ€”she was adopted! Could Hayley be my daughterโ€ฆ Michelle? The thought rushed through Virginiaโ€™s mind, excitement building within her.

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

Once Grandpaโ€™s condition seemed more stable, Justinโ€”always a nuisanceโ€”waltzed into the room, his eyes scanning the space. โ€œDad, Mom said I should stay here with my wife. Where are all the gold bars, the bank cards, and all the rest? Did you bring it all from Shadow Pack?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re not well, so leave it to me. Iโ€™ll take care of things for Mom,โ€ he added shamelessly, rummaging through the room.

โ€œYou useless good-for-nothing!โ€ Grandpaโ€™s voice cracked with fury, his eyes wide with anger. โ€œI have nothing to offerโ€”no money, just my worthless life. Get out!โ€

Justin, completely unfazed, waved him off. โ€œIโ€™m not leaving. This isnโ€™t just your house, and your word isnโ€™t the law here.โ€

Benjaminโ€™s gaze was fixed on me, sensing my frustration. With a slight frown, he walked over to Justin, his voice steady but cold. โ€œMr. Justin, I donโ€™t think you belong here right now.โ€

โ€œCome with me,โ€ he continued, โ€œIโ€™ll make arrangements for you to stay somewhere else?โ€

โ€œNo, thanks,โ€ Justin replied dismissively. โ€œIโ€™ve got my own place. Why would I go live elsewhere?โ€ Without a second thought, he pulled out a chair and sat down, completely indifferent.

Benjaminโ€™s eyes darkened, and his patience began to wear thin. Stepping forward, he spoke with more irritation, โ€œAre you sure you donโ€™t want to accept my offer?โ€

Justin barely looked at him, then shook his head as if dismissing him entirely. โ€œNo, I wonโ€™t. You may be the Alpha of Midnight Pack, but you have no say in Shadow Pack or the Carson familyโ€™s matters. Youโ€™re not in a position to tell me what to do. Staying with my father is my right. I donโ€™t need some stranger from another pack telling me otherwise.โ€

Benjaminโ€™s restraint snapped. Without another word, he pulled out his phone and dialed. โ€œTyrone, bring a few people. Also, have my city apartment cleaned up.โ€

โ€œWhat are you doing? You canโ€™t just force me out!โ€ Justinโ€™s voice grew desperate. โ€œYou canโ€™t do this! This isnโ€™t your territory, you know!โ€

Benjamin ignored him completely, sliding his phone back into his pocket as he approached Grandpa and me. โ€œIโ€™ll help you back to your room,โ€ he said softly.

I understood what he was doing. Forcing Justin out in front of Grandpa would upset him, so Benjamin was silently seeking Grandpaโ€™s consent. After all, Benjamin didnโ€™t have the right to evict his biological son without Grandpaโ€™s approval.

As a former Alpha of Shadow Pack, Grandpa wasnโ€™t unfamiliar with making tough decisions. He immediately sensed Benjaminโ€™s intention. After a long pause, Grandpa glanced at me and then extended his hand to Benjamin, allowing him to help him rise. During the process, Grandpa deliberately swayed a bit, and I quickly stood up to support him on the other side. I knew Grandpa had something important he wanted to tell me.
