Chapter 601: Inherited the Title of Alpha at a Young Age
Hayleyโs POV:
For a moment, I was speechless.
โIs she dead?โ Steven asked, his voice laced with a hint of curiosity.
โNo,โ the bodyguard responded. โThe bullet didnโt hit her heart. Sheโs been taken to the hospital, and sheโll survive.โ
Benjamin, noticing my unease, raised his hand, signaling for everyone to leave the room.
Once it was quiet, I exhaled softly, muttering under my breath, โA person like her wonโt go down so easily.โ
In that moment, I couldnโt help but feel a strange sense of envy toward Jonah, despite his many flaws. At least he had a mother who truly cared about him. As for me, I had inherited the title of Alpha at a young age, surrounded by power and titles, but I had never even met my real parents.
Was that because I wasnโt enough?
Then, I remembered Justinโs words. Despite how much my grandparents cherished me, I was still just their adopted granddaughter, with no blood ties to them. If a day came when they had to choose between Justin and me, I had a sinking feeling I already knew the outcome.
I had always been the one left behind. It was inevitable.
โPeople are always different,โ Benjamin said, noticing the melancholy in my voice. He tried to comfort me, though I wasnโt sure I could be comforted.
Hera, sensing my emotions, began to calm down and seemed a bit more at ease.
โMaybe,โ I answered softly, turning toward the door.
โWhere are you going?โ Benjamin stood as well.
โTo save Jonahโs life.โ
I had made up my mind. Regardless of whether Tina survived, I was determined to help her son.
We soon arrived at the hospital. Using Heraโs energy, I administered an injection to Jonah. Within moments, he stirred and regained consciousness.
He was still stuck in the memory of the moment when he tried to stop me. The instant he saw us, he instinctively grabbed his neck, sitting up with suspicion on his face. โWhat do you want?โ he demanded, his voice tense.
โYour motherโs in the hospital,โ I said coldly.
โWhat? What did you do to my mom?โ Jonah jumped out of the bed, panic flooding his eyes.
I narrowed my eyes, my voice low but threatening, โIf you want to stay conscious for the rest of your life, I suggest you stop talking.โ
After our last encounter, Jonah had learned to be afraid of me. He fell silent almost immediately.
As soon as I left, Jonah rushed to find out where Tina was. When he arrived at her hospital room, Tina had just regained consciousness.
โMom! Are you okay? What happened? Who did this to you? Tell me, and Iโll make them pay!โ Jonahโs voice was filled with fury, but deep down, it was clear he loved his mother deeply.
โMy dear, youโre awake. Thatโs all that matters. As long as youโre safe, Iโll be okay,โ Tina whispered, trying to soothe him.
โHow can you be okay? Look at you!โ Jonahโs voice cracked with frustration.
โNo, I have to get revenge. Was it Hayley, that b*tch?โ
โIโll transform into a wolf and challenge her to a duel. Sheโs just an Omega. My wolf could easily beat her!โ Jonah was already plotting his next move, his emotions completely out of control.
โDonโt go, son. Sheโs not just an Omega. And besides, sheโs always surrounded by Benjamin, that Alpha, protecting her,โ Tina urged, grabbing his arm urgently.
โIf I canโt beat her, Iโll just pay someone to kill her!โ Jonah spat angrily, his rage growing.
โShut up!โ Tina snapped, yanking Jonah close by the collar. Her face was tight with fear. โDonโt you ever say that again! We canโt afford to anger that woman!โ
โYouโve been unconscious for days. Our familyโฆhas gone bankrupt.โ
โWhat? That canโt be true!โ Jonahโs face went pale as if the ground had just fallen out beneath him.
โI donโt believe it! Youโre lying! Weโre rich! We still have Steven backing us. Thereโs no way we could lose everything!โ
โIdiot!โ Tina hissed, her eyes blazing with anger. โFrom the start, Steven was Hayleyโs man! He got close to us to lower our guard!โ
โWhatโฆโ Jonahโs face turned ashen, and he staggered back, processing the shocking revelation.
No wonder they couldnโt access Stevenโs suite, yet Benjamin and Hayley came and went freely. It all made sense now. The whole thing had been planned from the beginning.
That womanโฆ she was terrifying.
Tina sighed, her eyes dull and vacant as she stared at the ceiling. โWe pushed too far.โ
โWeโll have to lie low from now onโฆโ she murmured, defeated.
โNo! I canโt do it! I canโt accept this!โ Jonah shouted, his voice cracking.
He couldnโt come to terms with the fact that, overnight, he had gone from being a carefree rich kid to someone drowning in debt.
With a furious growl, he shifted into his wolf form and stormed out of the room, howling as he ran away, a blur of anger.
