Alpha Hayleyโs Destined Mate
Chapter 61: How About One Million?
Hayleyโs POV:
I ignored Heraโs suggestions and decided to play it cool, figuring out what these two men were plotting. I asked them a few probing questions, but the man only replied, โDonโt ask questions youโre not supposed to. Weโre just here to do a job for the cash. Beyond that? None of our business.โ
I squinted. โIf you let me go now, I can pay you a substantial amount.โ If money could resolve this, Iโd rather avoid bringing Hera out. Revealing my identity as an Alpha would only draw unnecessary attention. Hera had already sensed it: there were more than just these two around; many vicious Rogues lingered outside, just as dangerous as the ones in front of me.
Sure, I could let Hera take control, and weโd have no problem dealing with these two. But I couldnโt guarantee that none of the others outside would catch wind of what happened. Theyโd been Rogues for years, masters of escape. I wasnโt willing to take that risk.
Both men laughed, mocking me. โLittle girl, do you think weโre that easy to bribe? Just sit tight, and donโt go thinking a bit of pocket change makes you hot stuff.โ
โHow about one million dollars?โ
The atmosphere instantly shifted. I watched them exchange glances, their faces caught somewhere between surprise and skepticism. โYouโre messing with us, right?โ one finally replied, snorting. โOne million? Are you going to pay us using Vanisiaโs brass?โ
โNope,โ I said, โOne million dollars. All yours, in cash, if you let me walk away now. No strings, no questions asked.โ
I studied them carefully. The one in charge was starting to look tempted, a flicker of interest sneaking across his expression. I felt a surge of confidence, sensing he was about to agree. But then he shot me a sideways glance and shook his head, rejecting me coldly. โYou can stop with the fairy tales. Iโm not buying it. One million dollars, my a*s. Just stay put, and when the timeโs right, weโll let you go.โ
Seeing that the offer wouldnโt sway them, I held back from pushing further. They didnโt seem intent on harming me, so I settled into silence, biding my time.
About an hour later, the two men exchanged another look, and then, without a word to me, they both stepped out of the room. I didnโt know what they wanted to discuss. I quickly linked with Hera. As an Alpha werewolf, my enhanced hearing allowed me to catch their conversation clearly from where I stood inside.

18 Pearls of Doubt.
The leader immediately barked back, โSeriously? Do you believe that little girlโs words? Stop overthinking! Letโs just finish this job first!โ
โOkay, then. Iโll keep watch the first half of the night; you can take over after.โ
After they agreed on their plan, I heard one set of footsteps fading into the distance. A weight lifted slightly from my chest. If only one of them was guarding me, my chances of slipping away increased, especially if I didnโt have to rely on Hera and could keep up the appearance of a weaker Omega.
Still, to be safe, I decided to reach out to Thomas. I slipped off the bracelet from my wrist and sent him an SOS signal. Once that was done, I tucked the bracelet away, took a careful look at the terrain around me, and waited for my guard outside to get sleepy. When he did, I found the thickest wooden stick I could inside the hut and hid it behind me.
Moving quietly, I snuck out of the wooden cabin. Locating the man, I crept up and swung the stick hard, catching him completely off guard. He crumpled to the ground before he knew what hit him. Not wasting a second, I sprinted down the mountain path.
The night air was biting cold, chilling me to the bone. Shivering, but I kept running down the mountain. In my haste, I misjudged a step. My foot slipped, and I went tumbling forward, rolling down the path until I finally crashed into a large tree, just before the edge of a cliff.
Lying on the ground, I gasped for air, staring up at the moonโs bright light. When I was about to get up, I vaguely heard the sound of footsteps approaching. My heart thumped as I heard the footsteps drawing closer. My pulse quickened, and I held my breath, going completely silent.
I had decided. If there was no escaping this time, Iโd let Hera take control, tearing them apart, even if it meant exposing my true identity as an Alpha.
