Chapter 73: Face-to-Face Confirmation

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

Madeline stared at me, her eyes wide in disbelief. I bet she hadnโ€™t expected an Omega like me to not only stand up to her but also respond faster than she could. With a fierce tug, she yanked her hand back. โ€œHayley, you just wait. The game has only just begun, and I have all the time in the world to play with you.โ€

With that menacing comment, she spun around and confidently walked toward her striking Ferrari, swiftly vanishing from sight.

Inside the car, Benjamin suddenly turned to me. He asked, โ€œWhat did she just say to you? Was she yelling at you?โ€

Benjaminโ€™s concern surprised me. Was he worried that Madeline, this beta, would use her bloodline rank to bully me? But I wouldnโ€™t give her that chance and certainly didnโ€™t need Benjaminโ€™s help. I casually replied, โ€œNothing much. We were just chatting.โ€

Benjamin gave me a long, searching look, clearly not believing my words. But he didnโ€™t press further; instead, he simply said, โ€œJust ignore her from now on.โ€

I agreed with that sentiment, though a question nagged at me. Despite already knowing the answer in my heart, I couldnโ€™t help but ask him, โ€œDo you like her?โ€

The moment the words left my mouth, the air turned thick with silence. I cursed myself for asking such a foolish question!

โ€œNot at all.โ€ The three simple words were classic Benjaminโ€”straightforward and to the point.

A secret joy flickered within me, and I added, โ€œBut she seems to really like you.โ€

I was surprised at how possessive I sounded. Benjamin frowned slightly and turned to look at me with a penetrating gaze. Suddenly, he leaned closer, his face inches from mine!

My heart raced. Hera was stirred with excitement. I fought to suppress Heraโ€™s urge to press myself against him. Flustered, I met his gaze. Before pulling back, he simply remarked, โ€œYouโ€™re quite nosy.โ€

I pinched my palm to regain my composure, hastily shaking my head. โ€œForget it, forget it! I didnโ€™t mean to pry; it was just something random! Donโ€™t take it seriously!โ€

Quickly, I changed the subject. โ€œI think Iโ€™ll get some napping. Call me when we get home.โ€

โ€œHmm,โ€ he responded with a grunt.

I leaned back in my seat, slowly closing my eyes, and tried to get some sleep. But sleep evaded me as my thoughts tumbled in chaos. I realized that, like Hera, my feelings for Benjamin were growing stronger.

Once home, the first thing I did was turn on my computer. I immediately accessed Benjaminโ€™s company system and erased all traces of my activity from earlier.

After clearing my digital tracks, I continued helping Benjamin translate documents in the Mornant language, working diligently until midnight. Finally, I completed the first volume and sent it directly to Benjamin.

As soon as I sent it, Benjamin texted me back. โ€œThat was quick! Looks like I need to give you a raise.โ€

A wave of frustration washed over me. I never intended to be free labor! Although part of my motivation was gratitude for his previous help, that didnโ€™t mean I wouldnโ€™t charge him.

โ€œAs long as you pay well, my work efficiency will be high, boss,โ€ I replied. Benjamin swiftly retorted, assuring me that he wouldnโ€™t underpay.

He added, โ€œGive me your bank account details, and Iโ€™ll wire the payment.โ€

I blinked in surprise. Isnโ€™t he generous?

Indeed, I was in need of money, but I couldnโ€™t let Benjamin discover my true identity. So, I sent him a virtual account. Within five minutes, I saw the deposit: โ€œOne, two, three, four, fiveโ€ฆ one hundred thousand dollars!โ€ I was stunned. Was Benjamin really that generous?

โ€œThank you, boss!โ€ I replied, my excitement bubbling over. After that, I quickly transferred the money from the virtual account to my regular bank account.

Just as I was about to log off, Benjamin sent another message. โ€œNext time, I need you to come with me to Mornant for an on-site inspection. Are you available to be my interpreter?โ€

Waitโ€”interpreting on-site with Benjamin? Wouldnโ€™t that expose my identity?!
