Chapter 73: Face-to-Face Confirmation
Hayleyโs POV:
Madeline stared at me, her eyes wide in disbelief. I bet she hadnโt expected an Omega like me to not only stand up to her but also respond faster than she could. With a fierce tug, she yanked her hand back. โHayley, you just wait. The game has only just begun, and I have all the time in the world to play with you.โ
With that menacing comment, she spun around and confidently walked toward her striking Ferrari, swiftly vanishing from sight.
Inside the car, Benjamin suddenly turned to me. He asked, โWhat did she just say to you? Was she yelling at you?โ
Benjaminโs concern surprised me. Was he worried that Madeline, this beta, would use her bloodline rank to bully me? But I wouldnโt give her that chance and certainly didnโt need Benjaminโs help. I casually replied, โNothing much. We were just chatting.โ
Benjamin gave me a long, searching look, clearly not believing my words. But he didnโt press further; instead, he simply said, โJust ignore her from now on.โ
I agreed with that sentiment, though a question nagged at me. Despite already knowing the answer in my heart, I couldnโt help but ask him, โDo you like her?โ
The moment the words left my mouth, the air turned thick with silence. I cursed myself for asking such a foolish question!
โNot at all.โ The three simple words were classic Benjaminโstraightforward and to the point.
A secret joy flickered within me, and I added, โBut she seems to really like you.โ
I was surprised at how possessive I sounded. Benjamin frowned slightly and turned to look at me with a penetrating gaze. Suddenly, he leaned closer, his face inches from mine!
My heart raced. Hera was stirred with excitement. I fought to suppress Heraโs urge to press myself against him. Flustered, I met his gaze. Before pulling back, he simply remarked, โYouโre quite nosy.โ
I pinched my palm to regain my composure, hastily shaking my head. โForget it, forget it! I didnโt mean to pry; it was just something random! Donโt take it seriously!โ
Quickly, I changed the subject. โI think Iโll get some napping. Call me when we get home.โ
โHmm,โ he responded with a grunt.
I leaned back in my seat, slowly closing my eyes, and tried to get some sleep. But sleep evaded me as my thoughts tumbled in chaos. I realized that, like Hera, my feelings for Benjamin were growing stronger.
Once home, the first thing I did was turn on my computer. I immediately accessed Benjaminโs company system and erased all traces of my activity from earlier.
After clearing my digital tracks, I continued helping Benjamin translate documents in the Mornant language, working diligently until midnight. Finally, I completed the first volume and sent it directly to Benjamin.
As soon as I sent it, Benjamin texted me back. โThat was quick! Looks like I need to give you a raise.โ
A wave of frustration washed over me. I never intended to be free labor! Although part of my motivation was gratitude for his previous help, that didnโt mean I wouldnโt charge him.
โAs long as you pay well, my work efficiency will be high, boss,โ I replied. Benjamin swiftly retorted, assuring me that he wouldnโt underpay.
He added, โGive me your bank account details, and Iโll wire the payment.โ
I blinked in surprise. Isnโt he generous?
Indeed, I was in need of money, but I couldnโt let Benjamin discover my true identity. So, I sent him a virtual account. Within five minutes, I saw the deposit: โOne, two, three, four, fiveโฆ one hundred thousand dollars!โ I was stunned. Was Benjamin really that generous?
โThank you, boss!โ I replied, my excitement bubbling over. After that, I quickly transferred the money from the virtual account to my regular bank account.
Just as I was about to log off, Benjamin sent another message. โNext time, I need you to come with me to Mornant for an on-site inspection. Are you available to be my interpreter?โ
Waitโinterpreting on-site with Benjamin? Wouldnโt that expose my identity?!
