Chapter 80: Fair Competition
Hayleyโs POV:
He said, โI havenโt met a rival in a long time, but you qualify as one.โ
I smiled calmly and replied, โThank you; youโre quite impressive yourself.โ
โEven though youโre just an Omega, I wonโt use my rank to overshadow you. Weโll compete fairly, and Iโll work hard to surpass you.โ Jeremy looked at me with serious determination.
I nodded, encouraging him, โGood luck.โ
Jeremy gave me a deep glance before turning to leave.
The class was scheduled tightly, from morning until evening. Even after returning to the dorm, I led a study session for another hour. Even Trista, who usually showed little interest in studying, found herself caught up in the momentum.
As for Mandy, she didnโt need much encouragement; her skills were already decent. Every time she saw me studying, her competitive spirit kicked in, and she would hit the books too.
Time passed quickly, and before we knew it, a week had passed. The weekend was upon us. The teachers granted all the students a half-day off. Benjamin came to pick me up today.
As my dormmate and I stepped out of school, Hera reacted excitedly. I noticed Benjamin from a distance.
โIโm heading home now; see you tomorrow!โ I said my goodbyes to Trista and Lillian before getting into Benjaminโs car.
Mandyโs POV:
As I walked out, I spotted Hayley stepping into a luxury car. In front of me, Trista and Lillian were gossiping. Lillian exclaimed dramatically, โOh my gosh, could that be Hayleyโs mate? Heโs way too handsome!โ
Trista nodded and expressed her envy, saying, โIโm so jealous of Hayley! Sheโs smart and has a handsome mate.โ
โRight? Even though sheโs just a low-ranking werewolf, her mate looks like a beta like us. Sheโs incredibly talented tooโgreat at tennis and now excelling in Math Olympiads. Sheโs quite attractive.โ
Listening to their praise for that b*tch made me feel nauseated. I thought about how Hayley usually dressed, completely unlike someone from a wealthy family, yet here she was being picked up in a luxury car. I scoffed and said, โWhat mate? Maybe Hayleyโs just being kept by someone. I donโt get itโare rich people blind these days? Who would want someone as plainly her?โ
Sheโs a low-ranking werewolf, but sheโs still my friend, and Iโm a beta just like you. I wonโt allow you to speak ill of her.
I dismissed her warning and rebuked, โWhat am I saying thatโs wrong? Does Hayley look like someone from a rich family? Itโs you who canโt see the truth.โ
Trista frowned at me with disdain. She mocked, โSome people have filthy minds and see dirt everywhere. Those kinds of people are simply uncultured.โ
โExactly! Mandy, youโre the one with the problem. Maybe you should see a therapist,โ Lillian chimed in, pulling Trista away.
I clenched my fists tightly, biting my lip in anger. I wanted nothing more than to transform into a wolf and tear them apart. Regrettably, they were both betas of my level. When they teamed up together, I couldnโt take them on.
I yelled at their retreating figures, โYou donโt believe me, do you? Just wait! I will prove that Hayley is nothing but a kept mistress.โ
โYโYou w*tch!โ Lillian turned around, glaring at me. She was ready to argue, but Trista held her back. โLet it go; sheโs just a rabid dog. Donโt pay her any mind.โ
โRight, the rabid dog is barking here!โ
With that, they walked away, leaving me standing alone. As I observed their foolish behavior, a cold huff escaped my lips. Just like that, I was determined to find evidence of Hayley being a mistress. Genius? Nah, she was just a kept woman. I was going to make everyone see Hayley for who she really was!
After a moment of thought, I came up with an idea and made a phone call. โFind me a paparazzo, someone skilled at taking discreet photos.โ
