Chapter 811 My Destined Mate and My Bottom Line
Hayleyโs POV:
Truman ducked just in time. The needle barely missed him, slicing through the air past his car. Once the danger passed, he straightened up slowly, placing a dramatic hand on his chest. โAre you trying to blind me? If I werenโt an Alpha with these quick reflexes, youโd be stuck making love with a blind man forever.โ
โYou deserve it!โ I snapped, irritated by his shameless joking. I sneered, โMaybe going blind would finally stop you from staring at things that arenโt yours.โ
โIโve told you beforeโpush me too far, and youโll regret it. Benjamin is mine. If you dare touch him, even if youโre an Alpha King, Iโll make you suffer!โ
Benjamin was my destined mate and my bottom line. I didnโt want to waste another second there. I snatched my bag and stormed out of the room.
To steer clear of the guests, I let Hera out. I guided her toward a quiet spot in the garden, let her stretch her legs and run free for a bit, then finally headed back home.
Once I got there, I meant to check in on Grandma. But right before I walked inside, a thought hit me, and I spun around and made my way to Benjaminโs house instead.
When I arrived, the first person I spotted was Zayd, standing right outside Benjaminโs front door. Our eyes met near the gate. Zayd stood as rigid as ever. His face was unreadable. If Hera hadnโt told me he was a powerful Betaโone of the eliteโI wouldโve thought he was just a quiet, nerdy guy who spent too much time reading. Iโd known for a while that he came from Trumanโs Grimmoon Pack. Normally, I wouldnโt care. But with Truman getting involved in Benjaminโs life, I had to pay attention.
โDoes Benjamin know youโre tied to Truman?โ I gave him a hard stare as I asked.
Zayd didnโt respond. Not a word.
โSo thatโs a no.โ I told him straight up, โI have no clue why youโre pretending to be someone else and staying close to him, but he believes in you, so donโt mess that up. Donโt even try to betray him. If you do, I promise youโll regret it.โ
He looked down and kept quiet. I was about to say more when Hera suddenly stirred within me, more thrilled and energized than she had been in a long while. I turned just in time to see a sleek black van roll up. The door opened slowly, and Benjamin stepped out.
โWhat are you two chatting about?โ he asked with a soft smile, leaning in to kiss me lightly.
โOh, just asking Zayd some stuff about back home,โ I replied, smiling like it was no big deal.
Benjamin nodded, not even a little suspicious. He reached for my hand. โCome on, letโs go in.โ He led me inside, fingers laced with mine.
Zayd moved like he was about to follow us in, but I stopped and said, โYou stay out here. Donโt let anyone else in.โ
His foot had just crossed the doorway, but he pulled it back and quietly turned to face the street, standing guard at the door like the other wolf warriors.
Benjamin glanced at me. โDid Zayd make you angry again?โ
โNo,โ I answered flatly and gently tugged him toward the bedroom.
โHeโs not exactly great with people. If youโre not comfortable around him, I can get someone else to keep watch,โ Benjamin offered, testing the waters.
We were already inside at that point. I let go of his hand, shut the door, looked at him for a moment, and then hugged him tight.
