Chapter 85: Let Me Try!
Hayleyโs POV: +8 Pearls
He frowned at me and said, โHayley, how can an Omega like you be so casual, and even a bit rude, in your attitude toward me?โ
I smiled and said, โI treat all low-ranking Betas this way, not just you. You can check with others; I gave the Alphas of the Midnight Pack the same treatment. If you feel offended, feel free to transform into a wolf and punish me.โ
โSo those rumors are true after all. The ruling family of the Midnight Pack has invited you as a guest. Even though youโre a low-ranking werewolf, you come from a distinguished background,โ Jeremy said, studying me for a moment before continuing, โDo you know how to solve this problem?โ
My lack of respect no longer bothered him. Instead of answering him, I picked up a pen and drew a guideline on his diagram. โYour guideline is incorrect; it should be drawn here. Then, using the triangle theorem, you can deduce that these two angles are equal. Next, substitute this into the formula to calculate the specific length of this side. Finally, apply the trigonometric theorem to derive the correct answer.โ
His face flushed red, and he awkwardly took the pen from my hand. โLet me try!โ
With that, he began to calculate the problem using my method. I glanced at his steps and noticed he was on the right track, so I stood up to find a seat.
Before long, it seemed he had calculated the correct result based on my instructions. He looked at me, his eyes gleaming with excitement and something more intense.
For the rest of the day, I could feel his gaze stealing glances at me from time to time.
โHeโs got a crush on you,โ Hera teased.
โDonโt be ridiculous. Weโve just met, and he cares a lot that Iโm just a low-ranking Omega,โ I argued back.
โIโm not joking. I can sense his wolf reacting to you, but Iโm sure heโs not our destined mate. Only an alpha like Benjamin can be our mate.โ
Hera was determined to pair me up with Benjamin. I didnโt argue further with Hera, ignored Jeremyโs admiring glances, and concentrated on my studies.
Soon, lunchtime arrived. I packed my books and notebooks when Lillian and Trista approached. โHayley, letโs go eat together.โ
โSure! Just let me put my books away,โ I replied, placing all my textbooks into the drawer before joining them for lunch.
After we finished the meal and stepped out of the cafeteria, Trista suddenly touched her wrist and exclaimed, โWhereโs my watch? Itโs gone!โ
Lillian couldnโt help but smack her forehead. โYou silly girl, didnโt you remove your watch and place it in your backpack during the most recent class?โ
We returned to the classroom but found that the watch wasnโt in her bag at all.
Trista panicked and said, โI remember putting it in my bag. How can it be missing?โ
Lillian quickly said, โDonโt worry, just look again.โ
This incident happened out of the blue. I helped her look around and asked, โAre you sure you put it in your bag? Could it have fallen in the cafeteria?โ
Trista shook her head and said, โNo, I left it in my bag. I never took it out of the classroom.โ
โDonโt worry. As long as you didnโt take it outside, it must still be in the classroom. Just keep looking,โ I reassured her.
After searching several times without success, other classmates began to return. Upon learning that Trista had lost her watch, many classmates offered to assist in the search, but we were unable to find anything.
โIf we really canโt find it, letโs have everyone check their bags. Maybe someone accidentally took it,โ someone suggested from the crowd.
I frowned, following the sound to see Mandy grinning at me. For some reason, I felt there was something malicious in her smile.
โI agree we should all check each otherโs bags. After all, Tristaโs watch isnโt cheap. Someone could have taken it without anyone noticing,โ she said.
I walked to my seat and took out my backpack, rifling through it. In the next moment, I stumbled upon something. It was Tristaโs missing watch!
I pulled it out of my bag, and a wave of gasps rippled through the crowd.
โOh my gosh, it was her! She actually stole it!โ
โNo way! She seemed brilliant and capable. Who knew she could do something so sneaky?โ
โIt shatters my worldview; I canโt believe someone would steal anotherโs things.โ
โItโs expected for a low-ranking Omega from a remote pack to engage in such immoral behavior.โ
โItโs disgraceful to have someone like her under the same roof as us.โ
Derisive glances shot my way from all directions. My heart sank!
