Chapter 23
โOh, and who was that?โ
โDonโt play stupid now, Ms. Approachable and Down-to-Earth!โ
I laughed. โYouโve been reading the comments, too?โ I asked.
โOf course, I have!โ Viona replied. โYou seem to be the only thing on everyoneโs minds.โ
โWell, me, Noah, and Zoe.โ
โNah, itโs definitely you this time, girl. You have everyoneโs tongues wagging with that glimpse into your personal life. Nice touch with the wine and cheese, by the way.โ
โWine, cheese, and salami, thank you very much.โ
โOo-la-la, so fancy.โ
We both laughed loudly, then silence fell between us.
โSo,โ Viona said after a minute, โdid that pair of Noah/Zoe nutjobs really hurl insults at you? Out of the blue?โ
โYup. Completely unedited.โ
Viona let out a low whistle. โDamn. I donโt know how you deal withโฆโ
โI just let it roll off my shoulders. Their preferences arenโt my problem.โ
โStill, I couldnโt handle it, especially not daily. I mean, itโs one thing to carry the burdens of a Lunaโฆโ
โIt all comes with the honor of being Noahโs Luna.โ
Vionaโs groan rumbled across the phone line. โI wouldnโt tolerate that for any man.โ
โLess than a month left.โ
โLess than a month. If you keep gaining followers like this, Noah is going to be sorry he ever let you go.โ
โThatโs the idea, isnโt it? Wasnโt that the purpose behind wearing that dress to the charity ball?โ
โThat and attracting some cute guys.โ
I rolled my eyes but chuckled.
โSo, you still havenโt told me what you want to do after the divorce,โ Viona said.
I hesitated. I still wasnโt sure whom I should tell about my plan to become Alpha of the Silvermoon Pack. Viona had proven loyal, but that didnโt guarantee her continued loyalty after my intentions were revealed. I decided on a half-truth.
โIโm focusing on improving my reputation right now,โ I said. โThat way, Iโll come out better in the divorce and get more of what I want.โ
โIโd say thatโs working.โ
โReally?โ
โPeople adored your interview. If you continue, youโll be the shining star of your relationship in no time.โ
That made me smile broadly and sit up straighter. I trusted Vionaโs judgment, and her confirmation was validating.
โIโm glad. I was thinkingโโ I halted as the front door opened, revealing a grim-looking Noah. My heart raced. He wouldnโt be home outside of our intimacy nights unless he had a complaint.
โHannah? Hello?โ Viona asked, concerned. โIs something wrong?โ
I shook my head, trying to shake off the shock of Noahโs arrival.
โYeah, everythingโs all right,โ I replied. โLook, Noah just walked in. Iโll call you later.โ
โAll right,โ Viona said, cautiously. โLet me know if you need anything, okay?โ
โOf course. Talk later.โ
โBye.โ
I hung up as Noah set his bag on the couch beside me. He towered over me, arms crossed, nostrils flared, eyes dark, but otherwise controlled.
โHello, Noah,โ I said, keeping my voice strong. โIs something the matter?โ
Noahโs arms tensed. โI think if youโre going to do interviews, you should at least notify me.โ
