Chapter 23

โ€œOh, and who was that?โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t play stupid now, Ms. Approachable and Down-to-Earth!โ€

I laughed. โ€œYouโ€™ve been reading the comments, too?โ€ I asked.

โ€œOf course, I have!โ€ Viona replied. โ€œYou seem to be the only thing on everyoneโ€™s minds.โ€

โ€œWell, me, Noah, and Zoe.โ€

โ€œNah, itโ€™s definitely you this time, girl. You have everyoneโ€™s tongues wagging with that glimpse into your personal life. Nice touch with the wine and cheese, by the way.โ€

โ€œWine, cheese, and salami, thank you very much.โ€

โ€œOo-la-la, so fancy.โ€

We both laughed loudly, then silence fell between us.

โ€œSo,โ€ Viona said after a minute, โ€œdid that pair of Noah/Zoe nutjobs really hurl insults at you? Out of the blue?โ€

โ€œYup. Completely unedited.โ€

Viona let out a low whistle. โ€œDamn. I donโ€™t know how you deal withโ€ฆโ€

โ€œI just let it roll off my shoulders. Their preferences arenโ€™t my problem.โ€

โ€œStill, I couldnโ€™t handle it, especially not daily. I mean, itโ€™s one thing to carry the burdens of a Lunaโ€ฆโ€

โ€œIt all comes with the honor of being Noahโ€™s Luna.โ€

Vionaโ€™s groan rumbled across the phone line. โ€œI wouldnโ€™t tolerate that for any man.โ€

โ€œLess than a month left.โ€

โ€œLess than a month. If you keep gaining followers like this, Noah is going to be sorry he ever let you go.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s the idea, isnโ€™t it? Wasnโ€™t that the purpose behind wearing that dress to the charity ball?โ€

โ€œThat and attracting some cute guys.โ€

I rolled my eyes but chuckled.

โ€œSo, you still havenโ€™t told me what you want to do after the divorce,โ€ Viona said.

I hesitated. I still wasnโ€™t sure whom I should tell about my plan to become Alpha of the Silvermoon Pack. Viona had proven loyal, but that didnโ€™t guarantee her continued loyalty after my intentions were revealed. I decided on a half-truth.

โ€œIโ€™m focusing on improving my reputation right now,โ€ I said. โ€œThat way, Iโ€™ll come out better in the divorce and get more of what I want.โ€

โ€œIโ€™d say thatโ€™s working.โ€

โ€œReally?โ€

โ€œPeople adored your interview. If you continue, youโ€™ll be the shining star of your relationship in no time.โ€

That made me smile broadly and sit up straighter. I trusted Vionaโ€™s judgment, and her confirmation was validating.

โ€œIโ€™m glad. I was thinkingโ€”โ€ I halted as the front door opened, revealing a grim-looking Noah. My heart raced. He wouldnโ€™t be home outside of our intimacy nights unless he had a complaint.

โ€œHannah? Hello?โ€ Viona asked, concerned. โ€œIs something wrong?โ€

I shook my head, trying to shake off the shock of Noahโ€™s arrival.

โ€œYeah, everythingโ€™s all right,โ€ I replied. โ€œLook, Noah just walked in. Iโ€™ll call you later.โ€

โ€œAll right,โ€ Viona said, cautiously. โ€œLet me know if you need anything, okay?โ€

โ€œOf course. Talk later.โ€

โ€œBye.โ€

I hung up as Noah set his bag on the couch beside me. He towered over me, arms crossed, nostrils flared, eyes dark, but otherwise controlled.

โ€œHello, Noah,โ€ I said, keeping my voice strong. โ€œIs something the matter?โ€

Noahโ€™s arms tensed. โ€œI think if youโ€™re going to do interviews, you should at least notify me.โ€
