Chapter 25
The next day, I invited Scott to the house for coffee and a chat. As we sat at the dining table, sipping our mugs, we discussed everything from my successful interview to the impact my dress had on Noah. Our conversation eventually turned to Scottโs recent string of blind dates, all arranged by Noah.
โWhat didnโt you like about her?โ I asked, subconsciously stirring my black coffee. The bitterness burned my stomach, but my aversion to cream, sugar, or even milk in my coffee persisted.
โI donโt know,โ Scott confessed. โI just didnโt feel anything. No spark.โ
I took a sip. โWell, if the spark isnโt there, it isnโt there.โ
โThe problem is she was the last eligible girl in the Nightcrest Pack, and I still havenโt found my fated mate.โ
I raised an eyebrow. โSo, whatโs Noah going to do?โ
He shrugged. โI think heโs considering looking at girls from other packs.โ
A pang of sadness struck my heart. Noah was going to extraordinary lengths to help his half-brother, yet he wouldn't let him marry outside a suitable background. I twisted my wedding ring. This, I supposed, was a lesson Noah had learned from personal experience.
โHow do you feel about that?โ I asked.
Scott exhaled sharply. โI just wish I could find a mate as gentle and affectionate as you are.โ
Heat flooded my cheeks, and I looked away. โOh, Scott, you donโt mean that.โ
He covered my hand. โYes, I do,โ he said firmly. โMy brother doesnโt appreciate you as he should. It infuriates me that he doesnโt understand what he hasโฆโ
I bit my lip, withdrawing my hand and tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. โThatโs very kind of you. Iโm sure youโll find someone worthy of your love soon.โ
โI donโt know. Becoming mates requires destiny, and I just donโt know if itโs in the cards for me right now. Certainly not like it was for you and Noah.โ
I sighed quietly, staring into my mug. Was it really destiny that brought Noah and me together? It was hard to believe, after everything Iโd been through. Yet, the fact that Iโd been given a second chance at life did suggest destiny was on my side in other ways. Now, it was time to see if it was on Scottโs, too.
โScott, can I ask you something?โ
โOf course.โ
โWould you still support me if I wanted a divorce?โ
Scott pursed his lips, slowly drinking his coffee. I saw the internal struggle in his eyes.
After a minute, he set down his mug. โLuna Hannah, everything I do is for the happiness of both you and Noah,โ he reluctantly admitted. โI donโt think a divorce is conducive to that.โ
I tilted my head. โBut what if Iโd be happier if I left Noah?โ
Scottโs lips turned down. Without a word, he stood and left, leaving me in deafening silence.
โI donโt want to do this,โ I texted Viona after arriving at her house.
โJust get your butt in here!โ she replied. โItโll be good for you, girl. I promise.โ
I rolled my eyes. โFine, but remember, this was YOUR idea.โ
โYeah, my GREAT idea.โ
I grabbed my purse and headed up the steps. I adjusted the straps of my black cocktail dress before ringing the doorbell. A grin spread across my face as Viona and Amber opened the door, each holding a margarita.
