Listen to this chapter:

In the Quine Group's president's office, Lyra Blaine, the secretary, placed an A4 sheet of paper on the table. A plainly dressed man sat opposite her.

"Divorce? What do you mean?" Dustin Rhys was taken aback.

"Don't you understand? Your marriage to Ms. Nicholson is over. You're not on the same level anymore. Your existence is a smear on the president's reputation!" Lyra's words were blunt.

"A smear on her reputation?" Dustin frowned. "Is that how she sees me?" He recalled their early marriage, when the Nicholson family was deeply in debt. He'd helped them during their darkest hours. Now, rich beyond their wildest dreams, Dahlia Nicholson was discarding him.

"Something like that," Lyra said, jerking her chin toward a magazine on the table. A beautiful woman graced the cover. "Look at the headline, Dustin. Ms. Nicholson's net worth has reached one billion in just three years—a miracle. She's Swinton's most desirable woman! Destined for greatness. But you're just an ordinary man. You don't deserve her. Do the right thing."

Dustin's silence prompted a frown from Lyra. "I know you're unhappy, but this is reality," she continued. "You helped Ms. Nicholson, but she's repaid you. In fact, you owe her now!"

"So our marriage was just a business deal?" Dustin took a deep breath. "If she wants a divorce, let her tell me herself."

"Ms. Nicholson is busy. She won't bother with such trifles."

"Trifles?" Dustin was stunned, then laughed bitterly. "Is divorce a trifle? She can't even speak to me? Truly unattainable now!"

"Dustin, don't delay," Lyra pushed the divorce agreement toward him. "Sign here, and you'll receive a car, a house, and eight million dollars—more than you'll earn in a lifetime!"

"Eight million is a lot, butI don't need it. I'll sign if she comes. Otherwise, nothing," Dustin said coldly.

"Don't push it, Dustin!" Lyra slammed her hand on the table. "Ms. Nicholson can easily divorce you. She's letting you keep your dignity. Don't provoke her!"

"My dignity?" Dustin scoffed. She wouldn't even speak to him directly. What kind of dignity was that? And if she truly appreciated their relationship, why the threats?

"I think we're done," he said, standing to leave.

"Dustin Rhys! You—" Lyra started to lose her temper, but a curvaceous woman in a long black dress entered. Her snow-white skin and delicate features, combined with her commanding presence, made her seem like a goddess.

"You're finally here," Dahlia Nicholson said.

Dustin felt a mix of emotions. Three years of care and respect, ending like this. He still didn't know what he'd done wrong.

"Sorry I'm late," Dahlia said impassively. "I was busy." She sat down.

"Certainly busy, if you need your secretary to handle your divorce," Dustin retorted.

Dahlia frowned slightly but didn't explain. "Let's get to the point. Let's end this amicably. I'm sorry, but you'll get the car, the house, and eight million dollars. How does that sound?" She placed a card on the table.

"Do you really think our relationship can be measured by money?" Dustin asked.

"Too little? Tell me what you want. I'll give you anything," Dahlia said calmly.

"No, are money and power that important to you?" Dustin was bewildered.

Dahlia looked out the window, determination in her eyes. "To me, yes, they are very important."

"You've earned enough. Why do this?"

"Dustin, we have different philosophies. You'll never understand." Dahlia shook her head. They were incompatible in status, principles, and future prospects.

"You're right. How would I know?" Dustin laughed bitterly. "All I know is to cook for you, get your coat, take you to the hospital"

"There's no point," Dahlia said, her initial complex emotions masked by determination.

"You're right." Dustin nodded emotionlessly. "I heard you're close to the Nolan heir. Is it him?"

Dahlia hesitated, then nodded. "You could say that."

"Okay. I hope you're happy." Dustin signed the agreement. Disappointment was all he felt. Ironically, it was their anniversary.

"I don't want the money, just my crystal necklace back. My mother left it for my wife."

"Okay," Dahlia said, handing him the necklace.

"From today, we're done!"

Dustin, his expression now distant and aloof, put on the necklace and left.

"Did I do the right thing, Lyra?" Dahlia asked uncertainly, despite initiating the divorce.

"Of course!" Lyra nodded. "You deserve happiness. Dustin would only hold you back. You're destined to be Swinton's most powerful woman!"

Dahlia remained silent, watching Dustin go, feeling a sense of loss.
