Chapter 156
“What? How did this happen?” Caden’s expression clouded as he leaped up.
“I—I don’t know! I found her unconscious when I went to wake her this morning,” the maid stammered anxiously.
Before she could finish, Caden and Lily rushed to their daughter’s room. The sight that greeted them was terrifying.
Sheila lay motionless on the sunburst emerald bed, which usually radiated heat, but was now covered in a thin sheet of ice. Her face was devoid of color, her limbs cold and rigid, frost forming on her brows and hair. Wisps of white mist emanated from her body. She looked as if she’d been pulled from an ice cave.
“Sheila!” Lily cried, throwing herself onto her daughter, rubbing her arms and breathing warm air onto her.
“This is bad!” Caden’s face was grim as he felt for Sheila’s pulse; it was barely there. Her breathing was faint. She looked as if she wouldn't last the day.
He had no time to waste. He immediately channeled his internal energy to Sheila.
The frost around her began to melt, but Sheila remained cold and rigid, unresponsive.
“Lily, quickly! Call Dr. Shane! Get him here immediately!” Caden instructed. His energy could maintain her pulse, but not for much longer.
“Okay!” Lily immediately made a call. Her face fell after a short conversation. “Dr. Shane is on his way, but he won't arrive until nightfall.”
“Nightfall? That’s too late!” Caden frowned. “Inform Claudia. Have her find every available doctor in Swinton. I want them all here!”
“Alright!” Lily made another call.
Within the hour, Claudia, though distressed, arrived with a group of doctors. Some were department heads, some professors, some specialists—every well-known doctor in Swinton was present.
“Whoever saves my daughter will receive a handsome reward from us, the Murrays!” Caden promised.
“Be at ease, Mr. Murray, we will do our best!” The doctors were motivated by the promise. Knowing they were helping the Murrays, they saw this as their big break. Everyone knew the Murrays’ status. Curing Sheila would not only make their names but also introduce them to the Murrays, bringing fame, favor, and a substantial sum of money.
However, as they examined Sheila, one by one, their brows furrowed. They realized Sheila's condition was unlike anything they'd ever seen—icy cold, emitting cold air.
For a moment, no one acted.
“Doctors, there are so many of you here, don’t tell me none of you can do anything?” Caden grimaced.
They looked around sheepishly and remained silent.
“A bunch of rubbish!” Caden’s expression darkened. Though he hadn’t expected a cure, the outcome was infuriating.
“Uncle Caden! Sheila’s in really bad shape!” Claudia exclaimed.
They saw that Sheila was growing colder by the moment. Her breathing was extremely weak.
“Oh no! Her condition has worsened!” Caden’s brow furrowed. His internal energy could only help for so long; it wouldn’t cure her.
“What do we do? Sheila’s going to be alright, won’t she?” Claudia panicked. They were like sisters, and Claudia was distraught.
“Caden, why don’t we try this?” Lily produced a red pill, the one Dustin had given them. She hadn’t thrown it away.
“Are you kidding me? How can this help Sheila?” Caden scoffed.
“Just try it. We have no better options. Who knows, it might work!” Lily’s expression was solemn. She wouldn’t risk her daughter’s life if she had a choice, but the situation was dire, and the doctors were helpless. Dr. Shane was still en route, leaving them with no alternatives.
“What if it’s poisonous?” Caden hesitated.
“He came to us; he must have confidence in what he’s doing. I doubt he'd poison the pill; I don't believe anyone would be so reckless as to go against the entire Murray household,” Lily reasoned.
Caden fell silent, glanced at his icy daughter, and clenched his jaw. Then, with a decisive nod, he said, “Alright then! Let’s try it.”
Lily took a deep breath, gave Sheila the pill. It dissolved quickly. As soon as it reached her stomach, it began to work.
The effect was almost immediate. The cold air dissipated, and warm breath escaped Sheila’s lips. The frost melted, her rigid body warmed, and a healthy color returned to her face. Her breathing steadied.
“It works!” Lily’s eyes lit up. They didn’t know what the pill contained, but its effects were clear—it was ridding their daughter of the cold.
“Could it be possible that the rascal was telling the truth?” Caden’s eyes widened in disbelief. He’d thought Dustin was a scammer trying to extort money. He never imagined this discarded pill would save his daughter.
“Uncle Caden, Aunt Lily, where did this pill come from? It’s miraculous!” Claudia was amazed.
“Claudia, do you remember the man who saved you both yesterday?” Caden asked.
“Of course! Who knows where he came from. He might be dangerous!”
“He gave us the pill.”
“What?” Claudia’s eyes widened in shock.
