Chapter 180
Everyone in the room was flabbergasted, staring at the mercilessly battered and bruised Xavier. No one expected Dustin to be so bold as to slap him. Everyone knew the Horst family was among the five most powerful in the Southern province. They were the elite, essentially untouchable. As an immediate heir, Xavier was the rising star of the Horst family. Wherever he went, he was treated like royalty. No one had ever dared to publicly humiliate him, let alone slap him repeatedly like a maniac. Was this guy insane?
“Y-you dare hit me?” Xavier asked rhetorically, his eyes twitching as he attempted a fierce expression.
“I’m not just going to beat you; I’m going to make sure you can never use your hands again!” Dustin snorted, stomping on Xavier’s wrist and breaking it.
“Argh!” Xavier wailed in pain, breaking into a cold sweat, his face contorted. He couldn't even move.
“Stop! Have you lost your mind, Rhys? Do you have any idea who Xavier is? How dare you hurt him?” Claudia shouted angrily.
“I don’t care who he is. Anyone who messes with me gets a beating,” Dustin replied flatly. “Didn’t he just slap you, Ruth? Come here and give him ten slaps for me!”
“Okay!” Ruth exclaimed, adjusting her sleeves before approaching Xavier and delivering a brutal barrage of slaps.
“How dare you hit me! How fucking dare you hit me! I’ll beat your ass up!” Ruth cursed through gritted teeth, continuing her assault.
“Stop!” Claudia yelled, enraged, and intervened.
Dustin sneered, slapping her and sending her flying.
“Y-you dare hit me too?” Claudia whimpered, covering her face in disbelief.
“Don’t you think you deserve it?” Dustin snorted. “I saved your life more than once, and this is how you repay me? You said nothing when Xavier framed me, and you ignored Ruth being slapped. Why are you turning against us now? Are all martial arts families this vengeful?” Dustin snapped.
Claudia stuttered, her face turning bright red. Stunned and speechless, she was bombarded with valid accusations. Even Sheila was at a loss for words, caught between a friend and her savior.
Chapter 190
“I’m done with him, brother-in-law!” Ruth announced, her hands numb from the slapping. Xavier's face was swollen, resembling a pig's head. He felt dizzy from the relentless attack.
“I don’t care what you say. Laying a finger on Xavier makes you an enemy of the Horst family. No one will save your asses if you don’t explain yourselves!” Claudia shrieked. The Doyle and Horst families had been friends for generations; she couldn't defend outsiders.
“You want an explanation? Fine,” Dustin said, turning to Sheila. “Is the sachet on your chest a gift from Xavier, Miss Murray?”
“I-I’m not sure. Claudia gave it to me,” Sheila said, head lowered.
“What if I told you it was from Xavier?” Dustin pressed.
Claudia, feeling she had nothing to hide, retorted, “Xavier had an expert procure this sachet, and I delivered it to Sheila. It was supposed to aid sleep and nourish the soul. Why are you finding fault?”
“Aid sleep and nourish the soul? What a load of crap!” Dustin snickered, snatching the sachet and throwing it into a glass of wine.
“Gurgle gurgle.” The sachet expanded, revealing its contents. A thin, red snake slithered out, thrashing wildly in the wine.
“W-what is that?!” “It’s a snake! My goodness, it’s a snake!” “How horrifying! How can there be a snake inside? What if it bites someone?”
Horrified murmurs filled the room.
“How could this be?” Claudia gasped, unsure how to react.
“Do you know what this is, Miss Murray?” Dustin asked, pointing at the snake.
Sheila remained frozen, shaking her head in shock.
Chapter 190 (Continued)
“This is a Serpent Love Charm. It confuses people's minds. Once the snake enters the body, the charm takes effect until the host is completely infatuated. The host's heart could even stop!” Dustin explained.
“That was a ‘Serpent Love Charm’?”
Stunned silence followed. Even Claudia felt uneasy. She hadn't expected this.
“I’ve only heard stories; I didn’t know such a thing existed!” “Utterly ridiculous! He put a Serpent Love Charm on her to manipulate her feelings! How shameless!” “Miss Doyle, do you still think this sachet aids sleep and nourishes the soul?” Dustin asked sarcastically.
Claudia frowned, her gaze unconsciously shifting to Xavier. She couldn't believe what she was seeing.
“Stop listening to his nonsense!” Xavier retorted, regaining his senses. “What the fuck is a Serpent Love Charm? I’ve never heard of it! Someone else gifted me this sachet! I’m a victim too!”
“That’s right! Even if there was a Serpent Love Charm, it doesn’t prove Xavier put it there. Someone could have framed him!” Claudia roared.
“Yeah! Xavier’s always been honest and upright; he’d never stoop this low!” Nigel and others backed her up.
“Him? ‘Honest’ and ‘upright’? You’ve got to be kidding me!” Dustin snickered.
“The Serpent Love Charm needs a pair of snakes, male and female. The female has appeared; we're missing the male. Since you don’t believe me, let me show you!” He flung two needles towards the area between Xavier's chest and abdomen.
Xavier spasmed, a pained expression on his face. He spat out a dark, black liquid, within which a thicker, reddish snake thrashed.
The crowd was dumbfounded.
