Chapter 273
"I don't need it," Dustin said, flatly rejecting Dakota.
"You don't need it?" Dakota was stunned. She never imagined that, even in this life-or-death situation, Dustin would refuse her. Did he truly not want to live?
"Dustin, don't make emotional decisions!" Dahlia tugged his sleeve, pleading. "I don't care what crime you committed, your life is important. The Nicholson family has military connections; only she can save you now!"
"She can't save me, and I don't need saving," Dustin shook his head. Judging by the license plates and flags, this was a Balerno Military troop. The Glanstead authorities couldn't intervene. Besides, Edwin had pulled strings to send this large contingent after him; he wouldn't let Dustin escape easily.
"Hmph! You're on death's door, and you're still stubborn!" Dakota scoffed. "You haven't grasped the severity of this. Without the Nicholsons, you'll rot in there for life!"
"Dustin, please! Agree to her terms!" Dahlia urged anxiously.
An average citizen couldn't fight a high-ranking military officer. They could easily crush a civilian; one word could have them buried six feet under.
"Don't worry about me. I'm just going in for a cup of tea. I'll be out in no time, so go home," Dustin said with a small smile. The military had come this far; he owed them some courtesy.
"Enough! Take him away!" The impatient commander ordered his men to handcuff Dustin and shove him into the car.
The arrest was swift and efficient. Dahlia was frantic but helpless. Her network couldn't reach high-ranking military officials, let alone get someone rescued. A sudden idea struck her. She turned to Dakota, begging, "Dakota, you have extensive connections. Can you help Dustin and get him out?"
"I gave him a chance, but he refused. It's none of my business!" Dakota huffed.
"Even if you don't care about Dustin, think about your mother," Dahlia said, changing tack.
"Well" Dakota frowned. She didn't care about Dustin's fate, but her mother had a terminal illness, just as Dustin had said. If he died, wouldn't her mother be at greater risk?
"If I save him, will he definitely treat my mother?" Dakota asked skeptically.
"I promise he will!" Dahlia said seriously.
"Alright, I'll trust you this time!" Dakota nodded, pulling out her phone to contact people. Several Nicholson family members worked in the military; this was a small favor for her.
Meanwhile, Natasha lay on a lounge chair in Peaceful Medical Center, sipping tea with the air of a dignified owner.
"Natasha, something happened!" Ruth burst into the room, panicked.
