Chapter 295

"Hold on," Dustin said.

Dakota halted, spun around, and impatiently demanded, "What now?"

"You haven't paid yet," Dustin said casually. "This medicine is precious. Ten million."

"What? A bottle like this costs ten million dollars? You might as well rob a bank!" Dakota fumed.

"This is obviously easier than robbing a bank," Dustin retorted, reaching for the bottle. "You can always return it if it's too expensive."

"You're shameless!" Dakota gritted her teeth, wrote a ten-million-dollar check, and left angrily. She vowed to make Dustin pay after her mother recovered.

Half an hour later, she arrived at the hospital. Returning to the ward, she found a group of doctors gathered there, shaking their heads and sighing. Her mother, Jane, lay motionless on the hospital bed.

"You're back, Dakota!" Florence rushed forward. "How did it go? Does he have a solution? If there's no other method, we'll have to seek out Dr. Cross."

"He gave me a bottle of pills," Dakota said, producing the bottle. She poured out a peanut-sized, ordinary-looking black pill that emitted a musty odor. "He said Mom will be fine after taking them for a month."

Florence gaped in dismay. "This thing can heal her? It looks like a… booger!"

"That's what he said," Dakota nodded.

A bald doctor interjected, "Ms. Nicholson, your mother's life is in danger. A craniotomy is the best option, not some voodoo doctor."

"You can't even figure out what's wrong with her, yet you want to perform a craniotomy? How is that different from murder?" Dakota snapped. The doctors had previously suggested her mother's paralysis might be due to a brain tumor, but the CT scan was clean. How could she blindly trust their assumptions?

"All surgeries have risks," the bald doctor said, "but our professional team is more reliable than the doctor you found!"

"I have to try, no matter what!" Dakota's tone was firm.

The bald doctor shook his head, looking at Dakota with disdain. "What an idiot. Why would the world need doctors if medicine could cure everything?"

Another doctor chimed in, "Exactly! I'll take a shit while doing a handstand if it works!"

Ignoring them, Dakota placed the pill in her mother's mouth. It melted instantly, and a surge of energy seemed to flow through Jane's limbs.

A few seconds later, Jane coughed, her face flushed.

"What the hell is this? It tastes atrocious!" Jane sputtered, sitting up to gargle with water.

Dakota froze, then her face lit up with excitement. "You can move again, Mom?"

Jane halted, swallowed the water, then sprang up happily. "Oh my! I can move again!"

Dakota glared at the doctors. "Who said they'd take a shit while doing a handstand? Step forward right now!" They were rendered speechless.
