Chapter 45

Two women chatted eagerly onstage, like old friends. However, few realized their underlying rivalry—a competition between two beautiful roses, each possessing prickly thorns. Dahlia felt no inferiority despite Natasha's prestigious background; instead, it fueled her competitive spirit. She had always held herself to high standards and never gave up easily. No matter the difficulty, she would overcome it. Natasha's reputation as Swinton's business prodigy didn't deter her; one day, she would equal, or even surpass, her.

“I believe everyone has witnessed Ms. Nicholson’s charm! Next, I want to introduce another young man. He not only saved me but also greatly assisted the Harmon family. He is undoubtedly their savior!”

The crowd stirred. Everyone looked at each other with awe and curiosity. Who would Natasha call a savior?

“Chris, could he be the savior she means?” Jeff muttered coldly. He believed only an outstanding young man like Chris could fit Natasha's description.

“Chris, I didn’t know you were so important to the Harmon family! Congratulations!” Florence smiled brightly, assuming it was Chris.

Chris was speechless. He didn't know how to react. He was nothing. How could he be the Harmon family's savior? He wouldn't be facing bankruptcy if he were that capable.

“Could it be him?” Chris considered someone but quickly dismissed the thought. No! It wasn't possible! How could a nobody be the Harmon family's savior?

Under everyone's anticipating gaze, Natasha paused. “Alright, I won’t beat around the bush. Now, let’s give a warm welcome to Mr. Rhys!”

Natasha gestured, and a spotlight illuminated Dustin. All eyes turned.

“Dustin? How could it be him?” James was speechless, his mouth agape in shock.

“It can’t be! The Harmon family’s savior is that trash, Dustin?” Florence was equally shocked. She considered Dustin insignificant and weak, lacking capability and background. How could he become their savior out of the blue?

“How? How is it him?” Chris gritted his teeth, his hands clenched into fists. He felt more jealousy and frustration than shock. How had that nobody caught Natasha's eye?

Was he worse than Dustin? He was better-looking, richer, and from a superior family background; he was more capable and excellent in every way. Yet, that woman, who could recognize a gem, had chosen a nobody. Why?

Chris's face was clouded with hatred and resentment. “It really is him.”

Dahlia, too, was surprised and puzzled, experiencing an inexplicable surge of emotions as the lights shone on Dustin. However, Dustin wasn't happy to be the center of attention.

“What is this woman thinking? She didn’t mention I had to be onstage,” Dustin frowned, bewildered by her actions. After hesitating, he walked onstage.

Murmurs rippled through the crowd.

“Who is this? I’ve never seen him.”

“I heard he’s Ms. Harmon’s boyfriend. She wants to give him publicity at this opening ceremony.”

“Ha! So he’s just a gold digger!”

The crowd speculated. Many looked down on a man who relied on a woman.

“I’m very grateful to Mr. Rhys. He’s also the Harmon family’s savior. I hope everyone will get to know him better in the future.” Natasha smiled, putting her arm around Dustin's shoulders. Her gaze met Dahlia's, a clear assertion of dominance.

Dahlia remained composed, even raising her chin provocatively, as if daring Natasha to take care of her "trash." The two women began another battle, their gazes locked.

Dustin realized something was wrong. When had they started arguing? Weren't they partners? Why did they seem like rivals?

After a few seconds, they simultaneously looked away—an evenly matched standoff.

“Ms. Nicholson, I look forward to working with you,” Natasha offered her hand.

“I look forward to working with you too,” Dahlia replied with a smile.

“Sorry, but I’ll have to pass company matters to you now. Dustin and I have something urgent to do. Please, excuse us.” Natasha smiled, leading Dustin offstage, her arm still around him. Dustin remained silent. He was merely an ornament.

As they descended, Chris approached. “Ms. Harmon…”

Natasha didn't even look at him. “Get lost!”

Chris froze. His last hope vanished. He knew Natasha wouldn't let this go easily. He suspected the Harmon family was behind the investigation into his company. “These bastards! Since you’re so merciless, I won’t make it easy for you either,” he thought, glaring at them before leaving.

Dahlia tried to follow Dustin. Her gaze was fathomless, conveying unspoken words.

“Go ahead, Mr. Rhys. I’ll wait for you in the lounge,” Natasha said confidently, releasing Dustin.

“You wanted to see me?” Dustin slowly turned.

“I wanted to ask if the Harmon family choosing me as their partner had anything to do with you,” Dahlia said directly. This matter had troubled her since discovering Natasha's identity. Now, knowing Dustin's standing with Natasha, her doubts intensified.
