Zeke’s POV

I watched Tyris giggle and babble excitedly about her toys; I couldn't help but smile. Her joy was infectious, filling the room with warmth and laughter. Zane and Fletcher were easygoing with Kamille and her friends. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Moments like these made me realize how far I've come.

Growing up as an only child, I often felt isolated and lonely. My parents' strict upbringing left little room for friendships, and I struggled to connect with others. But now, surrounded by their happy laughter and chatter, I feel a sense of belonging I've always longed for.

For the first time, I felt like I'd found my place in the world, like I was part of something greater than myself. Surrounded by so much love, I felt complete.

I turned just in time to notice Zane's lingering gaze on Belle. She was engaged. Whatever Zane's plans were, he would have to abandon them. She was off-limits, and I wouldn't encourage any interference.

I'd done thorough background checks on Amanda and Belle. I knew Belle came from a family of doctors, a fact that only added to her appeal. But her engagement was non-negotiable, and I wouldn't let anyone disrupt her happiness. Not even my friend.

Zane and Fletcher kept the kids company; Amanda had excused herself for a meeting. I hoped Father had called his friends to keep quiet. I was disturbed by Kamille's question, but hopefully, my answer sufficed. I own the hospital, so patients I bring in personally receive preferential treatment.

After Kamille thanked everyone, she pulled me aside. "Uhm, Zeke. Thank you for everything. I really appreciate it. I'll go see the doctor now, so I know when we can be discharged," she said, avoiding my gaze.

I interrupted gently, "Let me talk to the doctor. I'll find out how Royer is doing and keep you updated."

Her green eyes twitched, but she agreed. "Okay, thank you."

"I'll have security escort the kids to school," I added as she turned to the children.

"Thank you, Zeke."

It was time for Zane, Fletcher, and me to leave. I needed to ensure they didn't overstay their welcome. "Hey, guys," I called, catching their attention. "We have to go."

Fletcher's brow furrowed. "Can't we stay a little longer?" he asked, looking disappointed.

I shot him a warning glare. "No," I replied firmly, cutting off any further protests. I couldn't let my friends get too comfortable with my kids. It would raise suspicions with Kamille, and I couldn't risk that. He knows how to be a father if he wants to be.

As we left the private ward, I pulled Zane and Fletcher aside. "Hey, a reminder," I said seriously. "Kamille doesn't know I'm the kids' father. Be careful what you say and do around them."

Zane and Fletcher exchanged glances. "Got it," they replied in unison.

I turned to Zane. "I noticed your wandering eyes earlier. Let me make this clear: Belle is engaged. Don't even think about pursuing her."

Zane's response was casual. "Engaged, but not yet married," he remarked with a smirk.

"If you want her, go get her, bro," Fletcher teased.

I ignored them and walked to the doctor's office.

"How is he doing?" I asked, concerned.

The doctor met my gaze with a reassuring smile. "He's stable. He needs plenty of rest and should avoid strenuous activity."

Relief washed over me. "Can he be discharged?"

The doctor nodded, reaching for the paperwork. "Yes, I was just about to—" I cut him off.

"Don't," I interjected firmly. The doctor looked surprised.

"Excuse me?" he asked.

"I want to ensure Royer's full recovery," I explained. "I won't be able to do that if we leave too soon. We need to observe his progress closely."

The doctor nodded. "I see, Mr. Reid."

"So we'll keep him here," I continued. "It's better to be cautious."

The doctor made a note on his file.

Protecting Kamille and the kids was my top priority; keeping them in the hospital ensured their safety. Kamille might not understand my reasoning, but with the Manor loose and Chris acting recklessly, I couldn't risk her leaving the hospital and putting herself in harm's way. Keeping her here would also keep her closer to me.
