"Brother, are you there?" A voice called from outside the door.
Situ Lei recognized his sister, Situ Jiao, instantly. He quickly closed the book and opened the door.
"Brother, what are you up to? You even locked the door!" Situ Jiao pouted.
"Nothing," Situ Lei said with a smile. "I was just getting ready for bed."
"Yeah, right. When have you ever gone to bed this early?" Situ Jiao settled onto the sofa. "Why are you here so late?"
"Can't I check on you?" she retorted, then casually asked, "Did you take care of that despicable man from last time?" The thought had just occurred to her.
"The one with Lin Wenting who humiliated you?"
"Who else?" Situ Jiao's anger flared. "That bastard slapped me in public, evenโฆ even straddled me!" The memory brought fresh humiliation. She regretted not having him brought to her, so she could exact her revenge. "But he's dead, so I suppose that's that."
Situ Lei shared her sentiment. "I gave the task to Martial Artist. He should have handled it."
"Speaking of which," Situ Lei frowned, "Martial Artist's been increasingly undisciplined. He hasn't even reported back." Situ Jiao's question had reminded him.
Situ Jiao was surprised. Reporting back was fundamental. "Big Brother, do you think something happened?" she asked anxiously.
"What could go wrong? It's just some nobody," Situ Lei dismissed, then dialed a number. "Martial Artist, get back here immediately!"
Less than ten minutes later, a powerfully built man entered.
"Young Master?" he bowed, sensing Situ Lei's anger.
"Martial Artist, have you become complacent?" Situ Lei's voice was cold.
"Young Master, never! I'm absolutely loyal!" Martial Artist, startled, defended himself.
"Absolutely loyal? Then why didn't you report back after completing the task?" Situ Lei's tone was stern.
"Young Master, I always report back!"
"Then what about the man who insulted Jiao? Why haven't you reported on that?" Situ Lei slammed the table.
Ah Hu's face paled. He stammered, unable to speak.
"Nothing to say?" Situ Lei's contempt was evident. "Ah Hu, you know how I deal with disloyalty."
Ah Hu shuddered. "Young Masterโฆ I haven't completed the task."
"What!" Situ Lei's astonishment turned to fury. "You can't even handle a nobody?"
Situ Jiao, hearing the man was still alive, stood up, furious. "Ah Hu, what's going on?"
"Young Master, Miss, I've sent three groups, each stronger than the last, even five Martial Artistsโฆ none have returned," Ah Hu said, frustrated. "I was about to handle it personally."
Situ Lei and Situ Jiao were stunned. Three groups, five Martial Artists? Impossible.
"Get me that person's information!" Situ Lei demanded, his face grim.
"Yes!" Ah Hu quickly opened a file on his phone and showed it to Situ Lei.
The photo on the phone made Situ Lei gasp. The name beside itโSu Chenโstruck him. The man who had humiliated him years ago. He hadn't connected the two incidents. He'd considered his sister's attacker insignificant. He'd even delegated Su Chen's assassination to another person after the Qimeng Tower incident.
"Ah Jiao, is this him?" Situ Lei showed her the phone.
"It's him!" Situ Jiao's hatred surged. "I'd recognize him anywhere!"
"Big brother, he must die!"
"Don't worry. I've made arrangements," Situ Lei said, a sinister light in his eyes. His confidence stemmed from the assassin heโd hiredโa three-billion-dollar contract funded by everyone Su Chen had humiliated. Each one craved his demise.
