Chapter 193
Instantly, everyone's attention turned to the Oluward City Police Department. Anticipation for the next day's livestream was palpable as everyone awaited news about Obaly's claims. The Bennett family, however, remained oblivious to the brewing storm. They believed they could leverage Odalys' expiring contract to force a renewal, even plotting to manipulate her into assisting them by linking her to the Stewart family. What they didn't realize was that Odalys had already thwarted their plans.
After finishing her work, Odalys noticed Atlas and Sophia's discomfort. Raising an eyebrow, she playfully smirked. "I just revealed my past—why are you both so uncomfortable? Could it be you were planning to use my background against me?"
Atlas felt heartbroken and deeply troubled. He recalled Henry mentioning that if the Stewart family noticed Odalys, the Bennetts might exploit her connection for their gain. He realized any chance of reconciliation was now destroyed, and the future of the Bennett family seemed to be slipping away.
"Atlas, I'm in pain," she murmured, leaning against him, her eyes betraying hidden hatred.
Atlas escorted her home. After settling her in bed, he left without a word, preventing Sophia from speaking.
"Odalys, you bitch! You've ruined everything," Sophia muttered, clenching her fists. She hadn't anticipated Freya's interference, and now Odalys had taken everything. For now, she could only comfort herself with the thought, "Tomorrow will be better. With Henry's help, we can use the contract issue to get rid of Odalys once and for all."
Meanwhile, Freya embraced Odalys. "Odalys, you'll always have me. My family is your family. You saved me, and you've been so good to me. If the Bennett family tries anything, I'll stand by you."
"Thank you," Odalys smiled, touched.
Stella and Selah approached, followed by Francis.
"Your contract ends tomorrow?" Stella asked.
Odalys nodded. "Yes, and I'm not renewing it. After tomorrow, the Bennett Group and I will have no further ties."
As she spoke, Atlas emerged, deeply troubled. Was she truly so eager to sever ties with her family? He couldn't understand her desperation to cut them off.
Finnian stood stunned, unable to take his eyes off Odalys. He'd once considered approaching her, but now realized he had no right. Listening to her, he felt sick remembering his closeness to Sophia and their attempts to undermine Odalys. He was horrified by his past actions.
"Since you're not renewing, the Bennett Group can't control you anymore," Stella nodded approvingly. "Making this clarification public prevents them from exploiting it."
In the entertainment industry, contracts were terrifying. Many artists found their contracts indefinitely extended, trapped by companies using blackmail and forced agreements. Victims were often too afraid to speak out. Odalys was the first to be so upfront and resolute.
"I know, but clarity is important," Odalys murmured. "We don't want the public misled." She'd anticipated this moment since agreeing to the variety show.
"Let's celebrate with a delicious meal!" Freya suggested. "Who knows when we'll all be together again?"
"Great idea!" Selah agreed.
Odalys looked at Selah intently. "What about you? Since your contract ends after this show, are you not renewing it?"
Selah hadn't expected this. "Yes, I'm paying a penalty, but I'm not renewing. Everything's settled; I've signed the papers," she explained.
Odalys asked to see the signed contract. Selah didn't have it but had photos. Odalys encouraged her to show them to the camera, just as she'd done with her own contract.
"I'm also ending my cooperation with the company. I hope we'll meet again on screen," Selah said. She loved acting but was dissatisfied with her supporting roles.
"Good. I salute your decision," Odalys smiled.
The others agreed to celebrate. As everyone prepared food, Odalys remained thoughtful.
In her past life, on the day she died, she'd seen news of Selah's death. Suffering from severe depression, the news of Selah's tragic death—lured to a company dinner, locked in a room with men, then taking her own life after being assaulted—crushed her. The news had gone viral. Even as the Bennett family forced her to strip for a recording, the memory of Selah's death overwhelmed her, leading to her suicide.
Perhaps because of their shared fate, she felt a connection to Selah. In this life, Selah was safe, avoiding the fatal dinner. Odalys had even helped Selah get Lucian jailed. Selah had avoided her fate.
Everything had changed. Watching Selah gather ingredients, Odalys smiled.
"Wait for me!" she called, hurrying to join Selah.
