Chapter 361
“I’m just waiting for Windsor to do it. Once he does, the protective layer around him will be destroyed, and he’ll be tainted by Sophia’s misfortune,” Odalys analyzed in a low voice.
As soon as she finished speaking, the elevator doors opened. The two walked out, and an old security guard, standing nearby, watched them. The moment he saw Odalys, he hurried over, stopping before her. He glanced at her with anxiety and uncertainty.
“Ms. Stoise, can you please take a look at my granddaughter?” the security guard asked anxiously.
He knew she was a celebrity, famous after appearing on a variety show; she was now known throughout the city. Her every move made headlines. He, an ordinary security guard, had no guarantee she would help.
“What happened?” Odalys asked, looking at the kind-hearted man.
Hearing her question, the guard turned and picked up a feverish child. “Ms. Stoise, can you see what’s wrong with my granddaughter? She’s had a high fever for a long time. Even after hospital visits and injections, it hasn’t gone down. Now it’s 100 degrees, and even after another shot at the clinic, there’s still no improvement. The doctor said if it doesn’t subside, her internal organs will be severely damaged.” The guard’s voice trembled.
Nearly sixty, he came from a poor background and worked as a security guard. His son's daughter had been plagued with illness. Desperate, he didn’t know what to do.
“Let me see her,” Odalys said, reaching out.
The security guard, overjoyed, handed over the child. Odalys pressed her fingers to the child’s neck, her expression darkening.
“How is she? Is there any hope?” the guard asked, his legs weak, almost collapsing.
Seeing this, Percival stepped forward, steadying the guard. “Don’t interrupt her. Let her continue,” Percival said huskily.
The security guard, feeling inferior next to the noble-looking Percival, instantly felt intimidated. He’d seen many wealthy people, but Percival exuded an aura of immense wealth and power. He seemed more formidable than any big boss he’d encountered, commanding respect with a mere presence.
Odalys carried the child towards the sunlight. She placed the child face down. Many people—elderly people with children, young people—gathered, curious about the scene.
Chapter 361
“Why are they flipping the child over? What if she chokes?” an elderly woman asked fearfully.
Someone recognized Odalys and quickly covered the woman’s mouth. Many watched, but no one dared speak. Everyone’s attention was on Odalys and Percival.
“Hold still,” Odalys said, her fingertips moving to the top of the child’s head. The child cried. Odalys’s expression grew solemn. Her fingers pressed the spot, and the sunlight revealed a faint glow.
“What’s that?” the guard was startled.
Odalys narrowed her eyes. “About half a month ago, did your family hire someone to care for this child?”
The guard nodded hastily. “Yes, a distant relative. My son was busy, and my daughter-in-law was away, so she helped for a few days.”
“Ever since then, the child has been crying at night, refusing to eat, vomiting, and developing a high fever,” Odalys said.
The guard nodded, amazed. Odalys explained, “She inserted a needle into the child’s scalp. It wouldn’t kill her immediately, but it would cause discomfort. The needle would flow along her bloodstream, continuously being absorbed.”
“Luckily you met me. Otherwise, if you’d waited another day, the needle would have been fully absorbed, traveling to her internal organs. Then there would have been no saving her,” Odalys said.
A hush fell over the crowd. Some elderly women cried. They knew of child abuse by caregivers, but never expected a relative to be so cruel.
“So what now? Can she still be saved?” The guard was at a loss.
“She can be saved—just remove the needle,” Odalys said.
Percival held the child, positioning her head. Before the guard could speak, Odalys took something from her bag, placed it gently on the child’s head, and yanked it off. The child cried out in pain. A needle emerged.
“Call the police! This is attempted murder!” someone shouted, dialing 911. Police and paramedics arrived.
After removing the needle, Odalys disinfected and stopped the bleeding. The child, previously unconscious, opened her eyes.
“She opened her eyes!” the security guard exclaimed, taking the child. He hugged her tightly.
