Chapter 479
After sharing coffee at the hospital, Odalys and Percival waited. Dangelo, ill with cancer, remained hospitalized but had taken leave to visit Tillery Villa with Sienna. Meanwhile, Celeste and Blossom prepared a lavish dinner. They were about to sit down when they realized Clarence and Evander hadn't arrived.
"Why haven't they come? I'll go check," Orson said, biting into an apple as he left.
Percival frowned, trying to call Evander, but reached only voicemail.
"Odalys, I'll check on them," Percival said, rising.
Before he could leave, Odalys grabbed his arm. Her grip tightened, startling him.
"Don't go," she said, her voice uneasy.
Her anxiety intensified. Percival gently covered her hand, tapping it. "Is it Grandpa? Did something happen to him?"
Odalys rubbed her forehead wearily. After a silent moment, she looked at Percival.
"I told him not to go. There'd be trouble; I warned him to avoid others, but he went," she said, exhausted.
Orson returned. Hearing Odalys, he froze, nearly choking on his apple.
"Odalys, I can't reach Grandpa either. You don't think something happened to him, too, do you?" Orson asked nervously.
Both Evanders were elderly. If something had happened to them, the consequences could be severe. The younger generation could fight, but the older men, despite their youthful battlefield experience, were physically frail.
"Yes," Odalys replied softly.
She stood, and silence fell as everyone shared her unease. Celeste, seeing the situation, realized dinner would likely go uneaten.
She took Odalys's hand, offering a reassuring smile. "Go handle what you need to. We can gather later."
"Odalys, is it dangerous? Can we help?" Sienna asked urgently.
Odalys didn't answer. She hurried toward the door, her steps heavy with worry. The others followed, but froze as Odalys moved further away.
"Odalys!" Percival called, but she didn't look back. Orson rushed forward, but couldn't pass the doorway.
"What's going on? Is this the Devil's Triangle Odalys mentioned? Why can't we follow her?" Orson asked, panicking. He wanted to help, but they were trapped.
Chapter 479
"It looks like a soul-binding spell. She's trapped us here to protect us while she's gone. We're stuck, but no one can enter either," Percival explained calmly. He'd studied magic, given the Stewart family's history, and recognized the phenomenon.
"So, we just wait? What if something happens to Odalys? We can't do nothing!" Sienna cried, frustrated and helpless.
"Wait," Percival said firmly.
Silence fell. They watched Odalys disappear into the swirling mist.
"Wait! Someone's a virgin, right? Isn't virgin urine powerful? Could it help Odalys if there are demons or monsters?" Blossom blurted out. The sixteen-year-old, having read extensively on magic since Odalys awakened her, recalled this from her novels.
The others were stunned. Their eyes turned to Percival and Orson, both known for lacking romantic relationships. While Dangelo and Harvey were married with children, only Orson and Percival were potential candidates.
Orson coughed awkwardly. Before he could speak, Percival stepped forward. "You stay here."
Percival walked into the mist. The others remained frozen.
"What's going on? Why can he go and we can't?" Orson asked, frustrated. Helplessness was palpable.
Outside, darkness engulfed the city. Only dim streetlights were visible; streets and roads were deserted. Odalys spotted a Cayenne speeding down the road.
Suddenly, a large truck swerved, crashing into the Cayenne. A figure was thrown from the car, blood staining the pavement. The man lay motionless. A faint sound, like something dropping, followed. Gasoline leaked, igniting from a dropped lighter. Both vehicles erupted in flames.
The injured man tried to crawl away, but something held him down. His eyes widened in fear as a gust of wind pushed him back toward the flames. The explosion consumed him and the wreckage.
Odalys stared, disbelieving. After the fire subsided, she whispered, "Father?"
Chapter 479
If she wasn't mistaken, the figure had been Percival's father. Evander's disappearance had worried her. She'd stopped Percival to prevent him from entering the trap. She'd acted only when the mist appeared.
The soul-binding spell was a terrifying illusion, a blend of real and unreal worlds, trapping people in distorted memories.
