Chapter 561
Finnian was not only illegitimate but also ungrateful. Percival's phone vibrated. "Ring."
The rain had stopped. Percival put away his umbrella, handing it to Orson, and answered the phone. Surprised by the caller, he subconsciously glanced at Odalys.
"Why are you looking at me?" Odalys asked, confused.
Orson, equally curious, waited with Odalys for Percival to hang up.
Percival said, "Sophia was kicked out of a cab. After vomiting blood and collapsing, Henry appeared, intending to take her away. Unexpectedly, Sophia recovered, pinned Henry down, apparently drugging him, and then sold him to a nightclub." Percival's Adam's apple bobbed. He found the situation unbelievable. The CEO of the Bennett Group had been sold as a gigolo.
"Damn! That's crazy!" Orson exclaimed, startled.
"Would anyone in Crownridge dare take Henry as a gigolo? Even bankrupt, he's still the Bennett family's eldest son," Orson said, puzzled.
Percival chuckled hoarsely. "Sophia claimed Henry willingly worked there because the Bennett family was bankrupt and hoped the nightclub would give him a chance." He continued incredulously, "And Henry agreed. Sophia sold him for thirty thousand dollars."
Odalys fell silent.
"Odalys, is something wrong?" Percival asked, noticing her expression.
Odalys shook her head. "Maybe I'm overthinking. Logically, Sophia's condition prevents activating whatever's within her. But you said she suddenly returned to normal after vomiting blood and collapsing. Something seems awakened, and I hope it's not what I think."
Orson rubbed his wrists, eager to see Henry auctioned off at the nightclub.
"But why would Henry agree to be a gigolo?" Orson asked.
"He was drugged, or bewitched," Odalys explained. "He likely did whatever Sophia said."
It was hard to imagine Henry's reaction upon waking.
"Henry had an affair with Edie, and now he's a gigolo," Orson mused, amused. "I wonder about Edie's reaction."
Odalys remained silent. At that moment, her phone vibrated. It was an unknown number, so she ignored it.
A police officer approached, nodding respectfully to Percival before addressing Odalys. "Ms. Stone, an accident occurred in the suburbs. After Lee lured the enemy into the woods, he encountered a mudslide. I fear the worst."
This corroborated Percival's information. Odalys tried divination but failed to glean Lee's fate. The uncertainty signified either nothing or death.
"Let's check it out," Odalys said.
Percival drove her to the outskirts. Orson, charging his phone in the back seat, saw lightning and heard a loud boom. Startled, he looked outside. Dark clouds threatened a storm.
"Percival, call everyone back. There's going to be a flood," Odalys said, her voice trembling.
Percival slammed on the brakes, messaging and calling. Soon, the Stewart family's bodyguards and police returned. Enveloped by darkness, Odalys said, "Let's go back."
Percival responded, "Okay," and sped back to Crownridge. Orson received news of a river embankment explosion.
Odalys clenched her fists. The police car sped through the dark afternoon. Odalys felt a burning sensation in her hand. Her ring was flashing red.
"Percival, stop the car!" Odalys exclaimed.
The ring, a gift from a deceased general, was sending a signal. Odalys's heart trembled.
"Odalys, you'll be in danger if the flood comes," Percival said quietly.
Odalys unfastened her seatbelt. "I promised him I'd help. I have a charmed life. Don't worry." She jumped out of the car.
Percival watched her walk away. Orson asked, incredulously, "What important business does Odalys have?"
Percival remained silent, speeding away, widening the distance between himself and Odalys until she disappeared from view in the rearview mirror.
