Chapter 600
When Percival saw Odalys's wet sleeves, he frowned and asked, "Why are your clothes wet?"
After hearing him, Odalys finally noticed her damp sleeves and pant legs. The chilly morning breeze made her feel a little cold. "I saw Grandpa watering the flowers when I woke up, and I couldn't help but join in," she said, twisting the corner of her shirt.
The two walked side by side, basking in the morning sun. At that moment, a bodyguard hurried in. Seeing them, he quickened his pace.
"Mrs. Stewart, someone from the Bennett family is here to see you. He says he has something important to tell you," the bodyguard said respectfully.
Percival frowned, looking puzzled. "Is someone from the Bennett family here?" His voice was laced with disgust. He had no desire to associate with the Bennetts, whom he considered foolish and lacking in independent thought.
"It may have something to do with Windsor. I'll go see him," Odalys said, seemingly guessing the visitor's identity. Without changing her clothes, she casually shook her sleeves and followed the bodyguard out.
From afar, she saw a familiar vehicle. Henry stood there, haggard, chain-smoking, his demeanor burdened with troubles. Hearing footsteps, he looked up and saw Odalys, casually dressed, followed by the respectful bodyguard.
"Odalys," Henry stepped forward, hurriedly grinding out his cigarette under his shoe. He chewed gum to mask the lingering smell of smoke before approaching her.
"What can I do for you?" Odalys's attitude remained cold. She wanted no contact with the Bennett family, believing proximity to them brought misfortune.
Henry looked at her with a bitter expression, a flicker of disappointment and self-deprecation in his gaze—something new she hadn't seen before. "Since you were at the Bennett Villa last night, you must have seen what happened. Dad was like two different people."
Odalys listened impassively, casting a calm glance without comment. She had no desire to intervene in Bennett family matters.
"After Dad quarreled with Mom, Brandon suddenly appeared and stared at Dad for a long time. He suddenly said, 'You have come back'," Henry explained. Feeling it was troublesome to explain further, he quickly showed Odalys a surveillance video. "See for yourself," he said.
The video showed Brandon patting Windsor on the shoulder. Windsor's expression changed, his eyes filled with restrained pain, before he suddenly pulled Henry away. The video ended there.
"This man patted Dad's shoulder. I don't know if that's what caused Dad to act strangely," Henry said. He then relayed a message from his father: "Tomorrow, go find Odalys and tell her the Stewart family matter has nothing to do with me! Warn her to stay cautious of the Simpson family; acting tough will only lead to her death. Tell her it was my idea to abandon her. Tell her to stay far away from the Bennett family if she wants to survive. If I change later, kill me."
"Those were Dad's exact words," Henry continued. "He was like a completely different person. Last night, he even deliberately pulled Sophia into the study and did something outrageous. Mom was so angry she coughed up blood and fainted." The Bennett family had fallen apart.
Odalys remained silent, an imperceptible look flashing across her eyes. Henry's words—"Stay far away from the Bennett family if she wants to survive"—echoed in her ears. She wasn't swayed; her kinship with the Bennetts had been severed over a decade ago when they abandoned her.
"You may leave. In the future, don't look for me unless it's important," Odalys said coldly.
Henry was dumbfounded. He'd expected tears, but Odalys's attitude only grew colder. "Y-you…" he began, but she interrupted.
"I've heard you out. If you think passing a message deserves a fee, name your price. But if you're trying to get my help, that's not possible. We've never been on the same side. From the moment you married Edie, from the moment you chose to pamper Sophia and hurt me, you were no longer my brother."
Henry fell silent. Looking at her resolute expression, he felt uncomfortable. He'd always had an easy life, but since Odalys left the Bennett family, his own life seemed to have gone downhill. His choices—the wrong path, the wrong woman, the wrong side—were fatal. He regretted them, but it was too late.
"Do you really hate us so much? Will you stay indifferent even if the Bennett family is ruined!" Henry shouted at her back.
Odalys stopped but didn't turn around. "This is the result of your own doing! The moment you chose to hurt and betray me, you ceased to be a part of my life."
