Chapter 620
Every question Odalys raised was like a time bomb. Orson's mind was in a mess; he felt incapable of even answering a multiple-choice question.
"Odalys, Sophia drugged Windsor and offered herself to him? Could it have something to do with her luck?" Orson asked tentatively.
Odalys said, "Sophia should have been testing who would benefit her most. Ultimately, she chose Windsor because he was the one with contact to the Simpson family after going abroad."
"So, Sophia had been in contact with someone from the Simpson family for a long time, explaining why the Bennett family knows about Percival's situation. The three Bennett brothers couldn't access these resources, but Sophia and Hannah knew them intimately."
Percival remained silent, taking long but controlled strides, closely following. After listening to Orson and Odalys's discussion, he said, "Drugging Windsor and offering herself to him might have opened a new path for Sophia. It involves someone replacing Windsor. After she destroyed Windsor's luck and transferred it to herself, his luck became a missing link, easily exploited. He didn't return for three years after going abroad, probably tricked under the guise of developing resources, leading to his body being exploited. He returned this time because he knew something had happened to the Bennett family; he had to appear. Additionally, the Simpson family was also returning to Crownridge, so he came back."
Orson was again surprised. Everything seemed to make sense. He said, "That makes sense. This explains why Windsor didn't return for three years and why his temperament changed drastically afterward. And Sophia suddenly became popular overnight three years ago. She was previously unknown. It all adds up!" Orson was so excited he almost jumped up, thrilled as if he'd hit the jackpot. He kept rubbing his wrists, a wide smile plastered on his face. He continued smiling, even as the bodyguards carried Finnian's body away in a sealed box. He stared at Finnian's body with complicated emotions.
"Stop looking at him," Odalys said, "He was your next target." Seeing his emotional gaze, she couldn't help but remind him. Orson didn't understand.
Odalys turned to watch Finnian being carried away. "If the assassination of Officer Hersey's wife and daughter had been successful the day before yesterday, you would have been the next target. I told you the dark shadow between your eyebrows wasn't from the butcher's knife; someone wanted you dead—Finnian. You considered him a brother, but he always wanted to replace you. That's why he contacted Dark Wells and cooperated with them. The first order was to kidnap Officer Hersey's wife and daughter; the second was you. You were always his target, but unfortunately for him, he met me," Odalys said calmly. She showed little emotion for Finnian; he seemed to have made little impression on her, her memories of him somewhat blurred. He had clung to her and even teamed up with Sophia, hoping to use her to gain access to the Stewart family's resources and property. Therefore, Odalys had a negative impression of Finnian.
"I almost forget he wanted to kill me and my parents," Orson gave a bitter smile. "Finnian, the illegitimate child raised by my family for over ten years, supported by our resources—in the end, he still wanted to hurt my family. Maybe it's human nature," Orson mused.
Odalys shook her head. "There's no need to be sad for him. He willingly accepted Sophia's Love Spell. That's why he reacted so strongly. He only regretted it later because the Love Spell drained his luck, and he desperately tried to regain it. I reminded him he could save himself by finding the Love Spell, but he didn't believe me. Instead, he chose these shady dealings." Therefore, everyone has their destiny, and no one can change it when it's time to die. Just like the woman on the phone earlier—Odalys had reminded her not to ask for money; if she wanted her son to live, she should ask the other party to return his life. Unfortunately, for the sake of money, both her son and she died. Death is predestined and cannot be changed.
"If he had been determined to find the Love Spell and refused to deal with Sophia after obtaining it, would he have lived?" Orson finally asked his lingering question.
Odalys nodded. "Of course. I never lied to him. My suggestion was a chance to save himself, but he didn't believe me and wanted a shortcut."
Percival watched the bodyguards carry Finnian's body from the Bennett residence. He asked, "So, the Love Spell Sophia used on him becomes ineffective after his death? And the luck she took from him would completely belong to her?" Percival, as a bystander, was the most rational and calm, seeing through everything.
"When one dies, their luck ceases to exist. A Love Spell like Sophia's can't convert another's luck; she needs to constantly draw on others," Odalys explained.
Percival nodded slightly. "No wonder Sophia was so unlucky just now. It seems Finnian, on the verge of death, resented her, causing her sudden misfortune. That's why she failed to absorb his luck. Otherwise, she wouldn't have gone to such extremes so quickly, directly injuring her hand."
Odalys gazed at him admiringly, her eyes wide. She cupped his face in her hands, studying it carefully. "You are amazing, Mr. Stewart! That is exactly what I meant," Odalys chuckled, teasing him. Percival's face was flushed, his thin lips pursed, the tips of his ears instantly turning red. He swallowed, feeling his breathing become difficult; his body felt hot and unbearable. Looking into her clear eyes, his heart pounded inexplicably.
"Odalys," Percival's voice was low and husky. He looked at her, their eyes meeting as she stood on tiptoe, her face full of smiles. The smile in her eyes seemed boundless.
