Chapter 44

Hearing her audacious statement, Brendan’s face darkened. There she was again, scheming against him.

Toweling his hair dry, Brendan coldly remarked, “I just defended you, and now you want me to work hard again? Dream on.”

Naomi teased, “You can just relax on the bed. I’ll handle it myself.”

Brendan was speechless. He raised the towel, tossed it at her, and blurted out, “Naomi, you’re such a troublemaker.”

In their banter, Brendan never emerged victorious.

With a poker face, he inquired, “How could you dare go to the Sabella family alone? Do you really think they won’t retaliate?”

Naomi chuckled composedly. “I don’t do things without certainty.”

Brendan stared at her in silence, wondering if Naomi was certain they would have a child together, just because they were married.

Seeing him remain quiet, Naomi playfully said, “You’ve been so protective today. Are you planning to have a baby with me, too?”

Brendan wore a solemn expression and declared, “Do you think I’d let the Sabella family tarnish my reputation?”

His implication was clear, and Naomi understood it immediately. For him, maintaining his dignity and reputation was paramount. She was merely teasing him.

Before Naomi could respond, her phone rang. Seeing it was a client, she answered, saying to Brendan, “If you’re not ready to have a baby with me, I’ll focus on my work then.”

She answered the call with a welcoming tone. “Hello, Ms. Logan.”

“Ms. Goodwin!” The lady on the other end burst into tears.

Naomi quickly consoled her. “Ms. Logan, don’t cry. Take your time and tell me what happened.” She flipped the blanket and sat on the bed.

Brendan watched her swiftly transition into work mode, his expression showing clear disdain. He had thought Naomi regarded him as supremely important, especially regarding having a child. However, that didn’t seem to be the case now.

“The decision is yours,” Naomi said.

After a short pause, she stated, “Alright, pick a day that suits you. We’ll discuss the specific procedures when we meet.”

Brendan, beside her, cast a sidelong glance. He felt Naomi hadn’t been sincere earlier and had been playing with him.

Over an hour later, Naomi ended the call, feeling drained. She yawned, stretched lazily, and slid under the covers. “I’m going to bed now!”

As Naomi nestled beneath the blanket, Brendan extended his leg and nudged her. He expected a playful retaliation; instead, she was already asleep.

An unexplained annoyance surged within Brendan.

Meanwhile, at the Jenkins family home, news of Naomi’s confrontation with the Sabella family and subsequent altercation with Madelyn had prompted Estelle and Pauline to remain hidden for over ten days.

They cautiously emerged only when they sensed subsiding tension between Naomi and Brendan, presuming the storm had passed. However, upon leaving the hospital, they were ambushed and attacked, forcing them back into the hospital.

Two days after Estelle and Pauline’s unfortunate incident, on a national holiday, Naomi was invited by Annie to discuss legal procedures at a local café.

Engrossed in their conversation, they didn’t leave until well past noon.

Annie looked apologetic and softly said, “Ms. Goodwin, I’m really sorry I had to invite you out to discuss work on a holiday. My schedule is too hectic, and I only have time during the holidays.”
