Chapter 61
Christine frowned. "What nonsense is this child spouting again?"
Brendan replied shamelessly, "I want full service tonight. I'll settle it all."
Naomi scoffed. "Sure! As long as you can handle it."
Their brazenness left Heather and Christine staring at each other, mortified. The girls' words had made them blush crimson, and yet the children acted as if nothing had happened.
Christine poked Naomi's waist. "Naomi, mind your language."
Naomi frowned. "Mom, if you keep poking my waist, I won't be able to have children."
"Pfft! Nonsense," Christine retorted.
Heather, unsure whether to laugh or cry, quickly intervened. "Since they've both pledged to make things work, let's go. They can handle the rest themselves."
Christine agreed and left with Heather. Once they were gone, Naomi prepared herself and went straight to Goodwin Corporation.
In the chairman's office, Dennis was on the phone when Naomi entered and sat opposite him. He finished his call, then looked at her. "You're not going to work today? Don't you need to go to the law firm?"
Naomi crossed her legs. "Mom said you're worried about company affairs, something to do with the Sabella family."
Dennis replied, "You don't need to worry about company business. Focus on having a good life with Brendan and having a child."
Naomi responded, "I will have a good life, and we will have a child. Those are two separate matters."
Seeing Naomi wouldn't be swayed, Dennis sighed. "The South Glistenville project is our most critical undertaking this year. We had a solid grasp on it. However, the Sabella family somehow obtained our proposal, slashed the price by almost 10%, and jumped into negotiations. Now, upper management is reevaluating."
"Lowered by 10%?" Naomi asked. "Is the Sabella family not interested in making money anymore?"
Dennis explained, "It's about pride. They want this project to pressure Goodwin Corporation. It's government-funded, and the initial bid wasn't high. Competing with an even lower bid would be self-destructive. Perhaps that's what they want."
He sighed. "If we don't secure the South Glistenville project, Goodwin Corporation's position might drop to second-tier, impacting us for years."
After Dennis finished, Naomi said, "Send me a copy of the project proposal and pricing. I'll review them."
Naomi was a law major with a thorough understanding of the industry. She'd also interned in the company's legal department, handling proposals and bids, so this wouldn't be difficult.
Dennis asked, "Do you have the time and energy for this? Can you manage your own work?"
Naomi replied, "I can make time."
She stood. "I'll leave now, Dad. Just send the documents to my email."
Dennis walked her to the door. "Alright."
Leaving Goodwin Corporation, Naomi didn't go to the law firm. Instead, she went to the City Planning Department to investigate the South Glistenville project.
"Naomi, what a surprise! What brings you here?"
Naomi smiled. "Mr. Turner, are you working today? I had some free time, so I decided to drop by and express my interest in the city's future development. I was considering where to buy a house."
