Chapter 65
Naomi entered Brendan's office immediately after Henry left, carrying a set of documents. She approached his desk, pulled out the chair opposite him, and smiled.
"I heard you sent someone to beat Henry up last night," she said.
Brendan looked up. "Isn't that what you wanted?"
Naomi's smile widened. "I guess you really do know me." She sat down. "You're a great husband in every aspect, but you just don't like me."
Without waiting for a response, she handed him the documents. "Our legal department says these require your signature."
Brendan took the documents, his mind lingering on her words: He was a great husband, but he didn't like her? He glanced at the documents, took a fountain pen, and signed.
Naomi took the signed documents. "You're quite cooperative! I'll give you a surprise tonight."
Brendan was speechless for a moment. "There's no need for that." Naomi's surprises were usually more shocking than pleasant.
"We've been married so long," Naomi said with a smile, rising from her chair. "There's no need to be so formal!"
Just as she finished speaking, Brendan's phone rang. Seeing he was busy, Naomi left with a cheerful goodbye, taking the signed documents.
In the hallway, as Naomi exited, Chloe appeared from around the corner. She smiled and approached Naomi. "Naomi."
Naomi responded with a noncommittal hum.
Chloe looked at the documents in Naomi's hand. "Are you here to have Brendan sign some documents?" She then leaned in, whispering, "By the way, the last time I was in your room, I didn't touch anything. I just sat in front of your dressing table all night. Brendan…"
Before Chloe could finish, Naomi interrupted. "Chloe, you could have your own life. Don't ruin it for yourself." Naomi had almost forgotten the incident. She wasn't sure of Chloe's intentions, but Chloe knew best.
Chloe looked embarrassed. "I know. I just didn't want you to misunderstand." Seemingly afraid of Naomi's displeasure, she held up a lunchbox. "I made lunch for Brendan. Naomi, would you like some, too?"
Naomi half-smiled. "Well, it would be impolite of me not to accept." She took the entire lunchbox. Naomi never made Brendan breakfast; it was no wonder he liked having Chloe around.
Chloe hesitated. "Naomi, you can't finish all this alone. There's still—"
Naomi interrupted. "Don't worry. I have a big appetite."
Chloe was dumbfounded. Looking troubled, she watched as Naomi remained composed. "Chloe, I'm not a man. Your pitiful act won't sway me. Brendan isn't someone you should be fixated on. Don't let your heart wander too far."
Chloe became anxious. "Naomi, I'm just very grateful to Brendan. I…"
Naomi ignored her and walked away.
Just then, Jason emerged from a nearby office. Naomi handed him the lunchbox. "Help me throw this out. Mr. Russell, if Brendan ever eats her food again, I'll make sure you won't have to eat anymore."
Jason's heart skipped a beat. "Ms. Goodwin, you can rest assured. I'll personally oversee Mr. Ludwig's meals from now on."
Naomi was formidable; even Mason and the others didn't dare provoke her. As a mere assistant, Jason wouldn't disobey.
