Chapter 87
Ronald's mischievous expression earned him a sympathetic look from Naomi. On the other end of the line, Brendan clenched his teeth. "Naomi, just you wait," he said.
Naomi yawned calmly. "It's quite late. I need to rest now." Before she could hang up, Brendan ended the call.
Naomi placed her phone on the coffee table and gave Ronald a thumbs-up. "That was impressive," she said.
Ronald enjoyed his food nonchalantly. "He won't have a good night's sleep tonight," he replied.
Maintaining her composure, Naomi asked, "Is there a chance you might not wake up in the future?"
Ronald froze. After a moment of silence, he hurriedly dropped his skewer, grabbed Naomi, and asked, "Naomi, what should I do now? Will Brendan kill me?"
"You were quite bold just now, weren't you? Don't be a coward now!" she said.
"Was I really bold?" he asked.
"Very bold," she replied.
Ronald panicked. "No, you need to think of a way to save me."
Later, Naomi advised Ronald to hide at Bailey's place. However, Ronald insisted on changing into more presentable clothes before leaving. Just as he was about to leave, the elevator arrived.
"I'm sure that's Brendan," Naomi said. "Hurry, find a place to hide!"
As they returned to the apartment, the doorbell rang. Ronald rushed into the bedroom. "Naomi, please don't betray me!"
Naomi pushed him. "Quickly, get inside!"
Brendan's voice rang from outside. "Naomi, if you don't open the door now, you can say goodbye to this apartment!"
Naomi opened the door, lazily crossing her arms. She smirked. "Oh, why are you here, Mr. Ludwig?"
Dressed in bright red pajamas, she exuded a sense of lazy mischief, looking like a delinquent. Brendan's expression darkened as he entered and pushed Naomi aside. He turned to Jason. "Make sure no one escapes," he ordered.
"Understood."
Naomi adjusted her pajamas and followed Brendan into the apartment. "Brendan, what do you mean by this?" she demanded.
Ignoring her, Brendan went straight to the master bedroom. He searched the room but found nothing.
"Are you looking for evidence of an affair?" Naomi asked playfully. "Brendan, do you think I'm the type to hide things? If there were someone here, I would have flaunted it in front of you. There really is no one else here."
Brendan pinched her cheek. "No one? Do you think I'm deaf?"
Naomi calmly fabricated a story to save Ronald. "I've been watching TV the whole time. What could you possibly have heard?"
Brendan chuckled, releasing her face. "Well, you'd better hope I don't find anything."
He had already instructed Jason to check the surveillance cameras. No one had entered or left the building, meaning anyone inside couldn't have escaped unseen.
"Alright, I'll help you search for the lover," Naomi said. "Lover, where are you hiding?"
Brendan searched the bathroom as Naomi opened the door and called out, "Lover, are you here?"
Brendan was speechless. They found no one. Naomi turned back to Brendan. "There's no one here." "There's no one here either," she added redundantly.
