Chapter 1055:
Mabel suddenly laughed. โTen years, and she still didnโt want to be with you. And you think youโre important to her, donโt you? You naive fool! Sheโs been playing you all along!โ
Kaelyn yelled, โHyde, end her life now! Sheโs the one who disfigured me! Do it, now!โ
Hyde pressed his lips tightly together and ignored Kaelyn. Instead, he let go of Mabel and fell backward. He had exhausted his last ounce of strength saving Kaelyn. While Kaelynโs life was spared, he would not survive.
Mabel knelt on the floor, frantically trying to stem the blood flowing from her stomach, determined not to die from excessive blood loss. Watching Mabelโs struggle, Hyde bitterly said, โYou bitch! Even in your next life, youโll still be despised by many.โ In fury, Mabel drew a gun. This gun, provided by Theo, contained a single bullet meant for Kaelyn. Now, the target of Mabelโs deepest hatred was the man she had loved with her whole heart.
Without hesitation, she fired. Hydeโs face showed shock and disbelief as he was struck. He never thought Mabel would actually shoot him. After the shot, Mabel herself began to sway. Hydeโs stab had pierced a vital organ, and Mabel felt her life slipping away.
Just then, footsteps resounded in the hallway. Lifting her eyes, Mabel spotted Elyse. Elyse stood in a cream-colored coat, her hair cascading softly on her shoulders, her eyes filled with sympathy.
Mabel extended her hand feebly towards Elyse. โElyse, please save me. I donโt want to die.โ
Elyse looked at Mabel with a conflicted expression. Though she wanted to remain detached and uncaring, she couldnโt be completely indifferent.
Elyse said calmly, โIโve called for an ambulance. If you can hang on, you might survive. If not, thereโs nothing more I can do.โ
As Mabel gazed into Elyseโs stoic face, she voiced the burden on her heart. โWhy did you have my mom killed and my dad imprisoned? I was left alone without parents. Donโt you feel any remorse?โ
Elyse answered, โYour parents were not innocent. I just tried to find out the truth about my own parents. And you, Mabel, when will you stop being so childish? Isnโt it time you grew up?โ
Mabel replied, โHow am I not acting like an adult? Iโll be 25 next spring.โ
With that, she closed her eyes, exhausted. Elyse remained standing beside Mabel for some time. Eventually, she couldnโt resist checking if Mabel was still breathing.
Mabel was no longer breathing.
Elyse stayed next to Mabelโs body, her expression one of perplexity. She scrutinized Mabel, this family she had so despised. . . .
