Chapter 1073:
Elyse nodded, then spotted Garret searching the fridge. She asked, โHungry? How about I make you something?โ
Garret glanced over his shoulder. โSure. And make it quick. Iโm starving.โ
Elyse rolled up her sleeves and got the ingredients. Garret settled on the couch to work.
He started focused, but the tantalizing smell of cooking soon distracted him. His stomach grumbled; he hadnโt eaten all day.
He rose and approached the kitchen. Elyse was stirring a large serving of macaroni and cheese.
โWhy so much?โ he asked.
โI thought you might like extra,โ Elyse responded, secretly hoping Jayden would have some when he returned.
The aroma intensified Garretโs hunger, and he hovered impatiently. Soon, Elyse gave him a heaping plate, which he ate eagerly, finishing quickly. He went back for seconds and thirds, finally feeling content.
Resettled on the couch, his mood lightened. โNo wonder Owen thinks so highly of you. Your cooking is excellent,โ he said sincerely.
Elyse smiled wryly, doubting Jayden had ever tasted her cooking.
Looking at the leftovers, Elyse covered the pot and joined Garret. Noticing her gaze, Garret asked, โYou have something to say?โ
Elyse said seriously, โI need to know, when will this conflict end?โ
Garret stroked his chin. โWell, killing the leader is essential. As long as theyโre alive, their forces will remain a threat, regardless of numbers.โ
โAnd how long will that take?โ Elyse pressed.
Garret saw her determination. โYouโre quite eager to marry Jayden, arenโt you?โ
Her heart skipped a beat. Those words echoed Peytonโs earlier comment.
Garret continued, โThese things take time. Wars arenโt won in a few days. Patience is key.โ
Elyse felt disappointed; wars didnโt end easily. She sat on the sofa, anxiously awaiting Jaydenโs return. She nearly dozed off when he finally arrived.
She sprang up. โYouโre finally back!โ . . .
