Chapter 1073:
Elyse nodded, then spotted Garret searching the fridge. She asked, “Hungry? How about I make you something?”
Garret glanced over his shoulder. “Sure. And make it quick. I’m starving.”
Elyse rolled up her sleeves and got the ingredients. Garret settled on the couch to work.
He started focused, but the tantalizing smell of cooking soon distracted him. His stomach grumbled; he hadn’t eaten all day.
He rose and approached the kitchen. Elyse was stirring a large serving of macaroni and cheese.
“Why so much?” he asked.
“I thought you might like extra,” Elyse responded, secretly hoping Jayden would have some when he returned.
The aroma intensified Garret’s hunger, and he hovered impatiently. Soon, Elyse gave him a heaping plate, which he ate eagerly, finishing quickly. He went back for seconds and thirds, finally feeling content.
Resettled on the couch, his mood lightened. “No wonder Owen thinks so highly of you. Your cooking is excellent,” he said sincerely.
Elyse smiled wryly, doubting Jayden had ever tasted her cooking.
Looking at the leftovers, Elyse covered the pot and joined Garret. Noticing her gaze, Garret asked, “You have something to say?”
Elyse said seriously, “I need to know, when will this conflict end?”
Garret stroked his chin. “Well, killing the leader is essential. As long as they’re alive, their forces will remain a threat, regardless of numbers.”
“And how long will that take?” Elyse pressed.
Garret saw her determination. “You’re quite eager to marry Jayden, aren’t you?”
Her heart skipped a beat. Those words echoed Peyton’s earlier comment.
Garret continued, “These things take time. Wars aren’t won in a few days. Patience is key.”
Elyse felt disappointed; wars didn’t end easily. She sat on the sofa, anxiously awaiting Jayden’s return. She nearly dozed off when he finally arrived.
She sprang up. “You’re finally back!” . . .
