Chapter 1079:

Brook exhaled. โ€œAnd you know I canโ€™t propose surrender either.โ€

He remained quiet for a long while before finally getting up and admitting, โ€œForget it. This is all my fault. I was too idealistic, thinking I could stall for time. Iโ€™m not meant for this. I should have stuck to the office.โ€ With that, Brook rose to leave.

Jayden halted him. โ€œWait a minute! Who said you could leave? Did I give you permission to go?โ€

Brook stopped. โ€œYouโ€™re not planning to kill me, are you?โ€

โ€œRest easy. In a clash between factions, emissaries arenโ€™t killed. I wonโ€™t kill you, but youโ€™re not free to leave either,โ€ Jayden declared. โ€œYouโ€™ve realized the truth about yourself. You really arenโ€™t suited for warfare. Youโ€™re better off in an office, poring over documents and negotiating deals.โ€

Elyse grasped the gravity of the situation and said sympathetically, โ€œYouโ€™re effectively a prisoner now. You shouldnโ€™t have come here. Youโ€™ve lost your freedom.โ€

Jayden commended her understanding. โ€œSee? Even she gets it more than you do.โ€

Brook was silent again for a long time before he stated, โ€œNow Iโ€™m captured and Corrieโ€™s hospitalized, so you surely know what comes next, right?โ€

Jayden arched an eyebrow. โ€œAbsolutely. This was precisely what I was aiming for. Iโ€™ve been waiting for this moment for a long time.โ€

Brook asked, โ€œI need to know, do you really want to continue this? Arenโ€™t you worried about the eventual repercussions?โ€

Jayden scoffed. โ€œWhy should I worry? It seems heโ€™s the one pushing me to my limits and wanting me gone, isnโ€™t he?โ€

Elyse felt bewildered, unsure about whom they were discussing.

Garret descended the stairs, his gaze falling on Brook, who was already tied to a chair. With a smirk, he quipped, โ€œWhatโ€™s this? No sense of family affection? You capture your cousin without hesitation?โ€

Brook shot Garret a defiant glance, remaining silent but resolute.

Jayden, standing nearby, remarked coolly, โ€œHe walked right into my hands. If I didnโ€™t use him as leverage, Iโ€™d be an idiot.โ€
