Chapter 108
A year after his car accident, Jayden—who had feigned being wheelchair-bound—had vanished from the business world, slowly fading from memory. He maintained a low profile to regain his strength and avoid his manipulative grandfather, especially after his grandfather exploited his marriage.
Driscoll nodded respectfully. "I see. I'll get a car ready for you."
As Jayden fiddled with some coins, he reflected on his ongoing investigation into the accident. Unable to identify the culprit, he cautiously continued his charade. He got in the car and drove to a coffee shop.
The waitress, noticing him, courteously guided him to a private room where Peyton and a man with gold-rimmed glasses awaited.
"Clive," Jayden acknowledged the man.
Clive Yates rose and offered a handshake. Peyton, watching, quipped, "We're friends. Let's not be so formal, okay? Handshaking? Really necessary?"
Clive smiled but didn't respond.
Jayden, ignoring Peyton, stated, "My grandfather plans to use the Foster family's land to create a new landmark. But I won't let that happen. I intend to completely thwart his plans."
Peyton chuckled. "Are you part of the Owen family? Does your grandfather know you're opposing him?"
"I'm protecting myself from being forced into a marriage with someone I find repulsive," Jayden replied, pointing to a map. "Peyton, this underdeveloped and unpopular parcel of your family's land cost billions, didn't it?"
"Yes," Peyton confirmed. "It seemed like a waste."
"What if we integrated the Yates family's hospital and Bayzee Plaza into this area? I'm also willing to invest in education, attracting prominent middle and high schools," Jayden proposed, indicating locations on the map.
Peyton, now serious, studied the map intently. After a moment, he asked, "Bayzee Group focused on business and entertainment last year. This land is fairly ordinary. How do you plan to attract them?"
Clive added, "Bayzee Group aims to establish Watscar's first business district. Many want to collaborate with them. Securing a partnership would revitalize this land instantly."
Peyton, intrigued, smiled slightly. "I see. But who could persuade Bayzee Group?"
Calmly, Jayden replied, "The head of Bayzee Group will be at a charity event in three days. I suspect my grandfather will send someone to gather information."
Clive and Peyton exchanged knowing glances.
Meanwhile, Elyse rushed to the studio for more tedious practice. That afternoon, she was surprised to learn a TV station team would be visiting their rehearsal. This unexpectedly brought Barnes to mind. Could he be visiting?
Trying to control her emotions, Elyse greeted the team at the door. Instead of Barnes, she saw Kaelyn and Theo.
Kaelyn, a well-known host, was expected, but Theo's presence puzzled her. Were they flaunting their relationship?
With a subdued heart, Elyse remained composed and showed them around. Afterward, seven or eight members of the TV station sat in the auditorium's front row, awaiting the performance.
Backstage, while tuning her violin, Elyse overheard an orchestra member whisper excitedly, "Have you seen the man shadowing Kaelyn? He's incredibly handsome. I heard he's from a wealthy family."
Elyse smiled. "Do you know who he is?"
"No," her colleague admitted.
"That's Theo Ward, the only son of the famous Ward family," Elyse revealed.
The girl gasped, covering her mouth. "Wasn't he Elyse's fiancé?"
