Chapter 110
Kaelyn pressed on relentlessly. "If Elyse truly loved you, why didn't she give you a chance to fix things? It wasn't as if you would never marry her."
To Theo's surprise, her words offered a strange comfort. Kaelyn was rightโif Elyse had truly loved him, how could she have married someone else? The truth was the opposite. How dare she accuse him of insufficient love when her affections were clearly phony?
Elyse observed the shift in Theo's expression and laughed derisively. "I underestimated you. It wasn't an accident you broke us up. You're something else."
Kaelyn sighed, feigning worry. "You must have misunderstood me, Elyse. I was having a depressive episode. I did ask Theo for help, but I didn't know it was your wedding day. Had I known, I would have suffered in silence."
Her performance worked on Theo, who immediately put an arm around Kaelyn. "I told you it wasn't your fault. Why do you keep blaming yourself?"
Elyse rolled her eyes. She couldn't stand their pathetic display. She finished her water, set down the glass, and started to leave.
As she passed, Theo grabbed her arm. To Kaelyn's shock, he said to Elyse, "Divorce Jayden."
Kaelyn was stunned. She'd worked to drive a wedge between them. Why couldn't Theo simply give up on Elyse? She was married to another man and had slept with him.
Elyse's shock turned to disgust. "Jayden is a far better man than you. I will never divorce him."
"What's so good about that disabled man?" Theo demanded. "How can he make you happy?"
Elyse hated Theo's ego most of all. He was always condescending, expecting reverence. "He's better in every way. I'd rather marry a disabled man than you." She shook off his hand and walked away.
Stunned, Theo remained frozen.
Kaelyn approached him, taking his hands. "Are you okay?"
Theo looked at her, confused. "How am I not as good as Jayden? I'm healthy! Why would she think he's better? Has she lost her mind? Was she provoking me? I knew it! Sleeping with that cripple is revenge. Right? Don't you agree?"
Kaelyn was speechless. Was it so hard for Theo to accept the truth? Was he in denial, even delusional? She'd thought his feelings for Elyse weren't genuine, but she was wrong. He cared more than he admitted. Things weren't going as Kaelyn hoped. Elyse was a ticking time bomb for Theo. Eventually, he'd realize his true feelings, and Kaelyn would be discarded. She couldn't let that happen; she wanted to be Theo's wife.
Meanwhile, Elyse rejoined the other orchestra members. Soon, Theo and Kaelyn emerged. The head of the TV station team saw them and smiled knowingly.
"My, my, Kaelyn," he teased. "Getting married soon?"
Kaelyn's eyes darted to Theo's cold, unapproachable face. Her colleagues mistook her reaction for shyness.
Elyse watched Kaelyn manipulate the media's perception. She realized how naive she'd been. Why couldn't she ever be the only one in her lover's heart?
Just then, Jayden appeared in his wheelchair. He saw Elyse's distress. "I brought afternoon tea. Why don't you tell your colleagues to take a break?"
Elyse's sadness vanished. Jayden's thoughtfulness always moved her. "We can't leave. The TV station people are still here."
"Invite them," Jayden replied. "There's enough for everyone."
