Chapter 1116:
Edward, taken aback, blurted out, “You are—” Before he could continue, Jayden’s gaze locked onto him. “What about me?” he challenged. “Got a problem?”
Edward, realizing he had also been involved in following Elyse, hesitated and chose not to press the issue.
Elyse, sensing they were hiding something, sighed. “Alright, since you’re both here, let’s stick together.”
Jayden nodded. “Sure, we can grab some food.” He turned to Edward, offering a gesture of peace. “You’re new around here, right? Let me buy you lunch.”
Edward stayed silent, feeling uneasy.
Just as Elyse was about to leave, Anthony rushed out of the shop.
Catching up to her, he looked at her apologetically. “Wait, we need to cancel the violin sale. I can’t sell it after all.”
Elyse was shocked. “What are you talking about? I’ve already paid for it.”
Anthony sighed, his frustration evident. “It’s my dad. He agreed to sell it, but he just called and changed his mind, forbidding the sale.”
He paused. “I told him it was too late, that you had paid, but he became furious and started making disturbing threats.”
Elyse frowned. “Why did he change his mind? What’s going on?”
Anthony shook his head, worry in his voice. “I don’t know. I need to go check on him and make sure he doesn’t do something drastic.”
Jayden stepped forward, his tone firm but worried. “Would it be alright if we tagged along to see your dad? We’re quite concerned and are here to help.”
Surprise flickered across Elyse’s face. Had Jayden always been this dedicated? Or had he transformed? Despite her reservations, she acknowledged his point.
She nodded slowly. “Considering I’m purchasing the violin, a direct conversation with your dad is warranted. Perhaps there’s something troubling him.”
Anthony paused before agreeing. “Let me lock up the shop, then we’ll go.”
As Anthony locked up, Edward sidled over to Jayden, his voice a quiet murmur. “Keep it real, Jayden. Are you genuinely this eager to help? Your sudden eagerness threw me off.”
With a sneer, Jayden replied lightly, “I feel the same way about you. You have a knack for making me feel sick.”
