Chapter 1184:
Elyse glanced at Amanda, who seemed speechless, and burst into laughter. โWhatโs the matter? Youโre not usually this quiet, are you?โ
Amanda retorted defiantly, โIโm a mercenary. Words arenโt my strong suit, but my shooting skills are top-notch. You might be eloquent, but thatโs all you have.โ
Elyse laughed. โWhy is being a mercenary so important to you? Is that identity really that crucial, or is it all you have to show for yourself?โ
Finding herself speechless, and with no one else around, Amanda tried a playful approach. She swung her hand at Elyse.
Elyse didnโt move, meeting Amandaโs gaze. Initially confident, Amanda was unnerved by Elyseโs assertive stance.
โWhy arenโt you moving?โ Amanda yelled, freezing mid-swing.
With a calm smile, Elyse replied, โIf you hit me, youโll be thrown out immediately. And your so-called mercenary pride? That might disappear as well.โ
Amanda felt a surge of shame, her face flushing as she fought for composure.
Observing Amandaโs troubled look, Elyse felt triumphant. She brushed her hair back and grinned. โYou should go now. I donโt have time to talk.โ
Amanda eyed the clothes Elyse held, recognizing they belonged to Jayden. Her abandoned plans reignited.
Intensely, she said, โThose belong to Jayden. Hand them over.โ
Elyse gave her a piercing look. โJust because you demand them, I should hand them over? If you need something from Jayden, ask him directly. Why should I give them to you?โ
Amanda, unable to outwit Elyse verbally, grabbed for the clothes. Elyse avoided her.
Ignoring Amanda, Elyse went downstairs. Seeing a mercenary delivering a message, she inquired, โCould you tell me where the laundry room is?โ
The mercenary, clearly smitten with Elyse, eagerly pointed, stuttering slightly, โStraight ahead, then right. Itโs right there.โ
Grateful, Elyse thanked him and followed his directions. Amanda, persistent, trailed behind. Elyse remained indifferent.
In the laundry room, Elyse saw two workers inspecting the washing machines. Curiously, she asked, โWhatโs the problem?โ
One worker explained, โThe washing machineโs broken. Too much dirt in everyoneโs clothes is clogging the crucial parts.โ
Elyse understood. โIt needs fixing, then. How long will that take?โ
โTwo or three hours, maybe. I wouldnโt wash anything today. Wait till tomorrow.โ The worker returned to his repairs.
Amanda seemed unsurprised. Extending her hand, she said, โHand over the clothes. Iโve got some in there too, and I can get Jayden moved up in line.โ
Seeing the heaps of unwashed clothes, Elyseโs urge to clean intensified. Without acknowledging Amanda, she picked up the clothes and left.
