Chapter 1213:

Hardy shook his head, unfazed. โ€œNo, I havenโ€™t.โ€

Amandaโ€™s voice rose. โ€œHow can you say that? When I was hunted, where were you? When I was lost, where were you? All of it proves you broke your promise!โ€

Hardy replied, โ€œI did promise him Iโ€™d look after you, yes. But there was an additional condition, one youโ€™re unaware of.โ€

Amandaโ€™s gaze hardened. โ€œWhat condition?โ€

He explained calmly, โ€œIf you ever crossed a lineโ€”one I couldnโ€™t stomachโ€”I had the freedom to step back. Youโ€™re an adult, after all. You can fend for yourself.โ€

Amanda shook her head, disbelief written across her face. โ€œNo, thereโ€™s no hidden condition! Youโ€™re just making excuses. You see me as a burden, donโ€™t you?โ€

Hardyโ€™s expression remained unchanged. โ€œI donโ€™t need excuses. I never mentioned the condition because I didnโ€™t expect youโ€™d stoop this low. But once I saw that side of you, I decided to wait until the moment was ripe.โ€

A faint smirk played on his lips as he added, โ€œAnd now, that moment has arrived.โ€

Amanda froze, her voice trembling. โ€œWhatโ€ฆ what are you saying?โ€

Hardy rubbed his chin thoughtfully. โ€œIt means youโ€™ve managed to anger your superior enough that he wants you gone for good.โ€

Amandaโ€™s expression shifted as she pieced things together. โ€œYou mean Jayden, donโ€™t you? This entire setupโ€ฆ it was his doing?โ€

Hardy nodded, his eyes narrowing. โ€œPrecisely. You drugged him and tried to harm the woman he holds dearest. Did you think heโ€™d let you walk away from that?โ€

Amanda looked stunned. โ€œBut why didnโ€™t he deal with me directly? Why weave this elaborate web?โ€

โ€œBecause it was my idea,โ€ Hardy said with a hint of amusement. โ€œYou should be thanking me. Thanks to my suggestion, Jayden granted you one more day. Without it, your fate wouldโ€™ve been sealed this morning.โ€

Amanda shook her head, unable to process the betrayal. โ€œThis canโ€™t be real. Youโ€™re lying.โ€

Hardyโ€™s tone grew colder. โ€œI went through all of this just to lay it out clearly between us.โ€

With those words, Hardy drew a gun, aiming it at Amandaโ€™s chest.

Amandaโ€™s face went pale, her body quivering.

โ€œYouโ€™re not actually going to kill me, are you? Donโ€™t forgetโ€”youโ€™re my brotherโ€™s friend. You swore to protect me.โ€

Hardyโ€™s lips twisted into a mocking smile. โ€œBelieve me, I canโ€™t stand you. You think you can shackle me with that promise, but Iโ€™ve been waiting for you to push it too far. And here we are.โ€
