Chapter 1318:
โYou must remember that neither you nor your father are true Bensons by blood. I took him in from an orphanage. I gave him the opportunity to marry and to have you.โ
She paused, then added, โI transformed your entire familyโs fate. Yet, because you didnโt receive the company shares, you chose to hurt others. Iโm deeply disappointed.โ
Pearce interjected, his voice firm, โYouโre upset about not getting the shares, but remember, she left you money and apartments. She even ensured your allowance was paid promptly and found a suitable partner for you. How could she overlook the good youโve done for her? Your greed, both you and your fatherโs, knows no bounds.โ
Thea bit her lip, remaining silent. The weight of the words hung heavy and uncomfortable in the air. After a long silence, she stood up and rushed out of the room.
As she stormed out, Pearceโs anger deepened.
โWhat does she think sheโs doing, running off like that? I should go and bring her back.โ
Felicia sighed, shaking her head.
โNo, let her be. Her presence here only aggravates me further.โ
She turned to Elyse and said gently, โElyse, would you like to stay for dinner tonight? We never had a chance to share a proper meal together.โ
Elyse looked at Felicia and saw a hint of eagerness in her eyes.
โYes, I would like to.โ
A smile spread across Feliciaโs face.
โWonderful. Iโll ask the cook to prepare your favorite dishes. Letโs enjoy a nice dinner together.โ
Felicia felt a genuine sense of happiness from having so many people around her. Elyse could tell the old lady was truly lonely.
โGrandma, could we move somewhere private to talk?โ Elyse suggested.
Felicia nodded and led Elyse to a study at the back of the house.
Once inside, Elyse closed the door and helped Felicia into a chair.
โGrandma, are you truly planning to give the shares to me? I think Thea might be right. Sheโs been taking care of you, and I havenโt really done anything for you. It doesnโt seem fair for me to receive the shares.โ
Felicia gently patted Elyseโs hand, her gaze tender and unwavering.
โThereโs no one more deserving than you, my dear.โ
Elyse shook her head, her voice tinged with humility. โBut Grandma, I donโt feel worthy of these shares. I havenโt been by your side the way Thea has. Despite her intentions, sheโs cared for you all these years. I canโt hold a candle to that.โ
A wistful smile graced Feliciaโs face as she reached out to caress Elyseโs cheek, her touch filled with unspoken affection. Elyseโs features reflected memories of her son, Rickey.
โTrue, you havenโt been hereโneither in presence nor proximityโbut every time youโve stood before me, the bond between us has been undeniable,โ Felicia sighed, her voice heavy with emotion.
