Chapter 1371:
Peering into Elyseโs conflicted expression, Jayden pressed gently, โIs it hard to imagine that Tracy could be plotting something so dark?โ
Elyseโs words were caught in her throat. As she met Jaydenโs steady gaze, her inner conflict deepened. Noticing her slouched shoulders, Jayden tenderly held her face.
โIf it were just Shaunโs accident, I might suspect a business rival. But then Doloresโs incident occurred right after Tracy appearedโฆ Itโs hard not to be suspicious of her.โ
Elyse turned her head away, avoiding his gaze and remaining silent. It was clear she was closing off.
Jayden sighed. โOkay, I wonโt push you to talk if youโre not ready. But one thing is clear now: Tracy isnโt dead. Sheโs very much alive.โ
Elyse whispered faintly, almost to herself, โItโs a relief sheโs alive. At leastโฆ at least I donโt have to grieve.โ
โWhat will you do when she comes looking for you?โ Jayden asked softly.
Elyse shrugged. โIโll just go along with whatever she wants to discuss. I wonโt say more than necessary.โ
Jayden raised an eyebrow, taken aback. โAre you planning on just ignoring the whole situation?โ
Elyse shot him a look, her eyes flashing with irritation. โI just canโt believe she would do such a thing. When she returns, sheโs still my best friend!โ
Jayden attempted to calm her. โFine. Maybe youโre right, Tracy wouldnโt harm anyone. Iโll be there with you when you meet her, alright?โ
Elyse snorted and turned her back, dismissing him.
Jayden touched his nose and, unable to hold back, voiced the question that truly bothered him. โSo, should I maybe look into where she is?โ
Elyseโs response was explosive. โAbsolutely not! Donโt you dare! Just stick to your own tasks!โ
โYes, maโam,โ Jayden replied, reluctantly dropping the topic about Tracy.
At the hospital, Velma sat on the bed, exhaling deeply. The state of Shaun left her feeling completely helpless.
Hanley, sitting next to her with a somber expression, said gently after a pause, โThe doctor said familiar surroundings might help his memory. We should consider moving Shaun back to Liverton. Itโs home, after all.โ
Velma nodded in agreement. โThat sounds like a good plan. Maybe being back will trigger something. Perhaps his memory will start to return.โ
โIโll go talk to Shaun and get him ready. We donโt want him getting agitated and resistant,โ Hanley said as he stood up and made his way to Shaunโs room.
Shaun was at the sink, freshening up for the night when Hanley entered. Shaun scrutinized Hanley from head to toe, his tone devoid of emotion. โWhat are you doing here?โ . . .
